with just under 4 months to go, how excited are you about Sk

Post » Mon Jul 18, 2011 12:01 pm

I'll be honest.

After Oblivion I semi-swore never to buy an Elderscrolls game again. See, I am a fan of the older games and this constant simplification, un-intelligent and often casual player-centric design choices make me more cynical than excited. I mean, Oblivion was just a spit in the face when it came to good game design. They broke a hundred different rules for good game design, it felt generated, slopped together by a team that really didnt have their _____ together. It was hyped with false marketing and pretty wrapping but the actual product was nothing but junk. Thankfully, the mod community was able to "fix" some of the glaring issues with the design of the game.

We shall see what happens with Skyrim. The fact they simplified it even more, less stats, less skills, less character customization options (some of the core elements of the western RPG, and franchise) just tells me they want to eventually turn it into an action game with some small rpg elements. It also tells me they would rather add in just enough to market and appeal to the audiences (dragon fights) and then let the modders do the rest of the work for them. In a way, relying on the mod community does work, the question is how easy will they make it for the modders and developers out there?

So we shall wait and see. The way games are going these days makes me sad as a whole though. As the market gets wider and in many ways (wider = dumber, as you appeal to the masses via simplicity), variety in choices and niches begins to crumble. Publishers are really the major flaw with this industry as a whole, lets hope they wont be needed in the future so developers can make games they way they used to.

If the stuff in the Meristation article is true, then I'm very excited. If it is not, then I'm still sulking about the armour being stuck together like a Halloween costume.

With out going overboard you should as a 1,000,000 to that poll because I am so excited I think I am going to explode, in fact I am fuzzing over right now!

And to the people that voted 1 what are you even doing here if you aren't even going to buy it (out of curiosity)

I can occupy myself with other things but damn, it gets hard sometimes. I will probably get it at midnight, as well. The only thing that bothers me is not having as much time to play because of fall classes :cryvaultboy:

Its a ten (seriously, if there was actual working cryogenics, then I would do it...) but the option for eight is what im going to do, since thats how I buy all my new games now, (since most of them, I just buy at midnight, and pretty much instantly beat them, since their only 6-8 hour stories, but now I will actually be doing something more then beating the game when my family wakes up at 6-8 am [ and I will still be playing it as 11.11.11 is a US federal holiday and I have no school as Im only 14 and most high schools are off for federal holidays >_>...] )

We are going to be overwhelmed by the vast amount of new info that Bethesda will be pouring over us soon. We've probably seen less than 5% of what Skyrim has to offer.

7. I like going to the store, not at midnight on day one to pick up a game. So its bright out and I have time to enjoy it and not be tired.

Well it's been over 7 months since the announcement and we're under 4 months to go! QuakeCon is 2 1/2 weeks ago and I couldn't be more excited. I can't wait for the public demo and then the rest of the coverage leading up to 11.11.11.
