[WIP] Hunt for the Tree of Power

Post » Tue Jul 19, 2011 7:37 pm

Wrote about this before, but since things have changed a bit:

According to legend, long ago, there was once a breed of tree on Vvardenfell known as the Jhla'mkurn. The ingredients that could be harvested held significant magical properties, and the tree itself seemed to possess the ability to "grow" the soil beneath it, rather than the other way around. People who lusted after its resources and abilities fought over what few of them there were, until finally the chaos and destruction put the Jhl'amkurn on the extinct species list.

Until now.

Rumors abound of a single Jhl'amkurn tree, growing somewhere on Vvardenfell. Will you be the one to find it, and harvest its powerful arcanoplasm? Or will it remain the property of nature forevermore?

Basically the player encounters a deceased member of one of two groups of people attempting to locate this last Jhl'amkurn tree, with a note on them that provides clues to finding and communicating with the others. You won't have the option of really helping either one of these groups (since they're both full of bad people and this quest is for heroes), it's your job to keep the tree from them at all costs.

I have a bit more to do, but I really can't move forward with it until/unless I can get a good feel for the difficulty level. The island the tree is on (grown by the tree itself, as a matter of fact) is swarming with bad guys, all armed to the teeth, and although I was satisfied in my battles against them, I have no idea how anyone else is going to feel about that.

So, without further ado, I open this mod up for testing.

Installation is easy, it's a plugin, a mesh, and a texture. Pretty sure you know where to put them all. Best way to get to the island is from Gnisis probably. Have fun. :)

EDIT: The tree should show up now. There's nothing to take from it yet though. :P

Interesting... Does this tree have a special mesh? It would be cool if it was...

I love the idea of a quest mod revolving around a plant: that's pretty unique.

Yes it does, built my Wolli no less.

Speaking of which, I have some adjustments to make now, since I forgot that I needed to include that mesh. :P

Hmmmmm...,

Although I am not a special fan of "Hack 'n Slash" mods (which this sorta sounds like) I might try it...

Just because I have seen your other work, and think you might be onto something...

Thank you for your interest. I aim to make this as unique as possible, it's not really hacking your way to victory. At least it won't be when it's finished.

But the final battle is pretty critical, if it's a let-down, or way too hard, it kind of kills it. :P

BTW, yes, these bad guys are hard.

lol. So the tree is currently non-existent if I downloaded it already? Good to know, as that would have been confusing...

OK....

My thinking (for what it's worth) is this:

Once you have your mod FULLY functional, and FULLY developed....

Would you be willing to let the people currently involved in the "Riller-Mosh" project (Haven't seen it? You should...) utilize an edited/adapted version of your "Save the Jhla'mkurn" quest [once finalized] as a "Save/Preserve the Hist" quest [another tree, with Argonian religious significance, in Riller-Mosh Argonian lore]?

Probably premature, but, it never hurts to ask...

And, I trust you will do a good job with what you are doing...

Yeah, everything else would've worked fine, just the tree wouldn't have been visible since the mesh didn't come with the mod. But now it does. :)

You mean, use the same idea to incorporate into their mod? Well, if they're interested, I could work with them on that, yes. I'll have to check that out first though...

Thank you. And it's not even done yet. :)

We do not speak of that mod in this thread. :P

If you wish to test, just download from the link. Remember to just head straight for the island, the dialogue and journals and such haven't been added yet. You'll know it when you look at your map, it kind of stands out. :P
