Skyrim - too good to be true?

Post » Tue Jul 19, 2011 7:01 pm

Oh no doubt, I'll be buying it the first day for sure, and I'll love it. But it's 2011, and from what we saw of the AI (specifically my first sig pic) is just not acceptable in a AAA title. ANd it's also not too difficult to implement locational damage... games on my iPhone have that.

But don't get me wrong, it'll be a fantastic game. I just think there are certain aspects of it that could have been done much better.

Certain aspects with the time to fix them. They never said when they made the demo. It could be from a year-old build for all we know. Let Bethesda try and work out some of the kinks before you say that they should do things better.

Judging by many peoples posts on this forum, I think some of you out there will be disappointed because you may have overhyped the game for yourselves and are expecting too much.

Some things can't be taken too 'literally'. Skyrim will be an awesome game, but you can't do anything and be anyone and go anywhere! ie. I want to be an Elf Inventor in Skyrim and build my own house, and make money from constructing houses for other npcs

There will be ALOT of limits as with many other open world games. Altough ES series happens to be the most flexible/

what exactly is going on in your first sig pic?

It's from the gameplay video, there are two bandits talking, and Todd kills one by shooting him with an arrow, and instead of reacting/running for cover, the other one just drew his sword and stood there like an idiot, staring at the wall for like 5 seconds until Todd killed him too.

I do not doubt the game will not be fun, but without a doubt, it will not be any better than Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, or Oblivion if it has as many bugs.

You mean you cannot be an innovative carpenter in Skyrim?

Bethesda, you just lost a sale.

Remember they also hyped R.A.I. like no ones business prior to the release of Oblivion and then after release everyone found out it was all a lie and much of RAI was cut out if not removed completely (if it even existed to begin with).

Wait and see is the best approach. Bethesda has no problems over marketing and over hyping a game that might be completely different upon release. Just being honest about.

I think its not so much that Beth over-hyped its product, I think its more us as consumers reading far too much into it.

I don't blame anyone though. I mean, who doesn't hope that the next installment of thier favourite franchise doesn't contain everything they wanted in a free-form RPG

Yeah and die hard Morrowind fans ate all of that up as a game like Morrowind but with all those added features lol.

I don't really see them hyping the game in the style of Oblivion this time around though, something about it seems...different for some reason. Hmmmm..

No doubt Skyrim will be awesome :foodndrink: . But one thing that got me worried was the pic of that one Nord weilding a battle hwmmer. There was the god awful clipping, muddy textures on the armor, low-res everything, the rugs on floor were especially low-res. Surprisingly thats the only bad pic I've seen of the game  . So we all know that Skyrim isn't going to be a perfect game. You all now after like three months after the game releases, people are going to start to b*tch about how the game is and that, and how it desn't live up to and/or surpass Morrowind.

That issue would lessen if you bought the PC version you know...
