Genesis Discussion

I was listening to an interview about skyrim character creation, and how that was now going to be. I was interested in their new approach, and I am curious of what everyone else wants?
I will make this polling topic with many choices and then I will start a final topic with the one’s that received the most votes. I will continually add starting points as everyone brings them up.

In case you are curious of the interview, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg4yzqZPy5M&feature=related

Morrowind approach, you are transported from the imperial city by boat on a prison ship. You are given the opportunity to choose your name by everyone’s favorite Jiub. Later the Census office take down class and so on as you are guided through a room where you loot everything including a hiskar’s dagger with a note saying it needs to be sharpened. You then go out a door that leads to another building before the exit and a barrel has a magic ring which teaches you about the magic system. Then you get papers for you’re mission to a major city, which then sparks off the main quest in a strange land.

Oblivion you are imprisoned for whatever reason, assassination attempt on the Emperor leads him through your cell. Beforehand you pick race and name. He is dragon born and knows you are special so he allows you to follow, later on after trying several weapons you are asked what you would like to be class and sign wise. You are then heading to a little ranch near a fairly large town, all of the main cities are on a map that you somehow always had and this indicates he knows the land here.

Fallout 3, you are born in vault 101 in the capital wasteland. You pick your name at birth. Your father raises you because your mother died giving birth to you. It continually skips through you’re childhood and the things you pick and do here decide what you are to start as in the future while simultaneously teaching you basics. You leave the vault to hunt down your father which evolves into a HUGE story with many side quests and ends with the player on an alien ship. One hell of an epic really.

Fallout New Vegas, you are shot in the head twice during a job, you somehow survive thanks to an eccentric robot and a mole butt doctor who is a creepy poltergeist. You tell your name upon waking and decide race and looks through a mirror like device that provides the same functions as gene projection. Using a pinball like stand thingy you pick attributes in place of You're Special! book, and take some doctor associated test to pick what your tag skills are and then you pick two perks for free. Then you are released to find your revenge which evolves into a large quest in which the protagonist is thrown between three armies deciding the fate of the west.

Skyrim is rumored to be the protagonist crossing the border into skyrim, he is either mistaken or he did commit a terrible crime and he is set up for execution. According to the interview you just keep playing through and no one ask you what class you want to be.

I'm going to ignore your bias, and stand by New Vegas, a fixed backstory does not allow me to RP well, Morowind and Oblivion at least gave me some wiggle room of my life before imprisonment, in Fallout 3, I was always James's son and always Amata's friend blah blah blah...

Really? I see a lot of opinions in their, don't act as though you didn't have any opinionated inflection, you emphasize how epic Fallout 3s start was, while insulting NVs characters and reduce or demean the details of it, like the "mirror like device" and "pinball like stand thingy" were any better than the "gene projection" and "You're Special!" book.

I had just forgot the name and was just waiting till someone would correct me actually. I didn't insult them once, but this is a pointless circular argument that could go on forever. Either believe me or don't, either way this is pointless to discuss it further..

No, it is demeaning the character, how is calling him a creepy mole butt poltergeist a good thing?

You added creepy yourself. You just don't get the reference. Go to the strip, go to vault 21 talk around and you will get the reference. The poltraguist part was a funny bug that was fixed pretty quickly. Youtube that.

No, I moved the creepy in front because it is an adjective, it was in there, in front of poltergeist.

You might as well say "TES style" e_e
And I like having a past and everything, it doesn't take creativity away from it. Free your mind!
