Old World Blues - Can't Load New Vegas!

Post » Tue Jul 19, 2011 3:06 pm

I have a Vista OS, the appropriate graphics card and RAM to run Fallout New Vegas, and had been just playing Honest hearts when I exited for a moment.

Steam bounced the ad for the new DLC, so I bought it for myself and my SO at about 12:30 CST. It installed itself on Steam right away, and I tried to load New Vegas, and it froze on the screen with the ranger armor (no buttons/actions), and no blip saying that new downloadable content had been added.

I didn't really care about playing OWB tonight, to be honest. I thought it was a pre-order at this point.

But if this is a serious glitch, I wanted everyone to be aware.

(I haven't rebooted my system, trying it now. If it makes a difference - woohoo, I'll update the post. If it doesn't, then... well, I'll be a very disappointed Fallout fan.)

Just wanted to say same thing happened to me. Windows 7 64 bit, Nvidia GTX 560ti, i5 2400.
edit- fixed my problem, posting for the OP: Try verifying your integrity of your steam cache:
Right click on the game name in your library, go to properties > local content >verify the integrity of your steam cache.

When I did this steam said that one of the files could not be verify and redownloaded; the file size wasn't named (as per usual with steam) but it was around 600mb or the size of OWB.

That fixed the main menu issue for me, but now it just CTDs when loading any save.

EDIT: The 1st time I verified the files 2 were bad. Now it says 1 is bad, but Steam doesn't seem to DL anything. I tried starting a new game and that seemed fine, but I can't load any saves.

I got this same issue.

I was thinking it was probably because I just started modding Fallout yesterday and thought there might be a clash between my mods and the DLC.

Will try verifying cache to let you know if it is a common solution.
