Mehrunes Dagon was against destruction? Nuh-uh.
Personally, I have more faith in lore from the Mer's perspective than that of the humans. I think they get everything wrong.

Do you have a reason for thinking this? Alduin is apparently the antagonist, and He is a Nordic (and Redguard, but they call Him Satakal) god. And Akatosh (well, Martin became Akatosh and fought Dagon) helped during the Oblivion crisis.
