Demons in Fallout?

Post » Thu Jul 21, 2011 4:52 am

Obviously this can't make up a whole Fallout game but would make a pretty kickass side quest.

Say you have a near-death experience somehow, and you wake up in 50's concept of Hell (Maybe like Dante's Inferno). You find demons (with classic tails and tridents) and also the spirits of old Fallout enemies (Horrigan, Master, Autumn, etc) and you can interact with them as you fight to get back to the living? Your karma will play an important role in affecting the quest in some way.

Though you probably won't able to keep your inventory from Hell, but you unlock some equipment as a reward in the real world? And you would get a Hell perk that you can continue using.

The concept of afterlife shouldn't be too "out there" in the Fallout world since a http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Anna_Winslow already exists.

No. No no no. Even if I were a Christian, just no. Not only should Fallout never confirm a certain faith to be true in it's universe, but something like this makes no sense for a Fallout game and it would incredibly cheap to just rehash a bunch of villains because you are in hell. Really, why is this desirable for you? I am actually dumbfounded. It's the same feeling I get when looking at some of the mods on the nexus.

Well, in retro-USA, the dominant religion is Christianity. And it's comical fiction, so faith shouldn't be a problem. And I'm not talking about rehashed villains, but MZ-style with demons and Devil in Hell.

But it's forcing a certain religion to be the "true" religion which in doing this invalidates every other real world religion and all post-apocalyptic religions as well.
Big no for me.
Ghosts is fine, actual religious confirmations is not.

How about you go to the afterlife of your respective religion? The protagonist just happens to be Christian. I think that was explained in Dante's Inferno, since there were no Muslims in that Hell.

Given that we're talking about a 50s America where everyone would be Christian, I don't believe religious discrimination applies. What doesn't fit for me is it having demons. Mothership Zeta had the 50s idea of aliens in and has still been seen by some people as ridiculous. Full on demons don't fit into the world of Fallout, in my opinion.

Isn't Fallout a place where anything can happen?

You said in your OP that you would want Horrigan, Master, Autumn, etc. to be there. Which are rehashed villains. Besides, the whole retro USA stuff is mostly based on science fiction of the time, not religions. It is also based on culture, so the majority of Americans were likely Christians at the time of the Great War, but that doesn't mean a religion should be confirmed to be true in the Fallout universe. Honest Hearts, for example, had tons of religion in it but nothing confirming that it is true, and that's how it should be.

I have a better idea, we don't go to hell because it is out of place and totally unnecessary for a Fallout game. They should keep a balance of realism and science fiction with an optional reference to the supernatural.

*sigh*

Let's just go with this: No, this isn't Dante's Inferno.
If you want to go to hell then play that game.

There's no reason to do this, it's a bad idea, just like it would be a bad idea to have aliens invade earth as a follow up on MZ.
Some things fit in Fallout, some don't, forcing a real world religion to be a true religion is a bad idea, and I hardly think they can account for every variety of religious beliefs of hell.
I mean, wouldn't buddhism(?) mean that you get reincarnated as a radroach?

"Isn't Fallout a place where anything can happen?"

I hate it when people bring this up.
No, Fallout is not a place where "anything" can happen.
Lots of things can happen but they all needs to be explained properly.
Which is the reason we still don't have a raider tribe with velociraptors as mounts.

No.
I'm Christian and this would just be horrible. Fallout is about sci-fi, people survivng and making civilizations, not demons and hell.

The most religious Fallout should get is Honest Hearts, with Grahman quoting the Christian Bible (at least I'm 99% sure he was quoting the Bible).

Damn lore, that sounds so awesome and epic!

By the way, unless you come from a particular tribe or vault, your character is unlikely to be a Christian. It has never showed up in any significant way in the games, except for that church in Rivet City and Honest Hearts. Being neutral about this kind of thing is best, as it doesn't offend anybody and it doesn't make Fallout have silly scenarios where you go to hell.

Well, we can always hope for Borderlands to have velociraptor riding raiders, that game doesn't care too much about being serious really. :)

Demons aren't unique to Christianity.

Although the idea doesn't appeal to me. There's enough of the little devils in fantasy RPGs!

Isn't the wasteland hell enough?

To make it non religious. Going with your idea, it could be something like the drug thing from Point Lookout, where you imagine all that crap is there, and instead of going to hell you could think you are in "the underworld"
