No way of knowing till we play the game! Or until Todd (  ) says something.

My guess is they'll more or less be the same thing. Guilds for fighters/mages. There'll probably be some cosmetic differences but I don't see the guilds having drastically different roles than they did in Oblivion. But that's just a guess.

Know what's strange? The guilds are only located in one city each instead of every city.

I don't recall the exact wording used (when the three main guilds were announced), but I think it's still possible that the guilds will have some sort of presence in each of the major cities, but their HQs are found in only one city.

I think it will be more like the Mages Guild in Oblivion, the "Guild" (Arcane Uni) is only in the IC, but there are local chapters with quests in each smaller settlement.

Quite possibly it's because the Guild of Mages and the Guild of Fighters from Morrowind/Oblivion were imperial. So it doesn't make sense that they would survive in an era without an emperor.

Or at least, they won't be operating under an Imperial charter. Could make things a little more interesting...

Nope, the Imperial Guild of Mages got closed down somewhere between the death of the emperor and the release of the dragonborn from prison. The College of Mournhold is an entirely separate organisation.

Ah. Misinterpreted your post. Yeah it could, if they are still in the game as the splinter organisations that the Mages Guild apparently became... But apparently we can't join them, or they aren't major.

One of those things I really do not wish to know, until I find out while playing the game. Imho we have had enough spoilers for the start of the main quest already, let's not do the same for the factions.

I thought the name was College of Whispers, and that Winterhold might be its location. I guess I won't know for sure until the game is released.

To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that instead of the very promising rival factions of Synod and College of Whispers created from the dissolution of the Mages Guild in the Fourth Era (which I once hoped would be like MG and Telvanni for Skyrim), we got yet another monopolistic "Mages Guild" equivalent with (most likely) no playable alternative (unless the local Witch Covens are joinable too, which would be amazing, but I doubt it).

I recall the mages guild having undergone a schism and becoming two seperate organisations, the synod and the college of whispers.
One of them supports necromancy but i dont remember which, also only 1 would probably joinable. The other would most likely be the opposing faction in the guilds storyline.

Agreed. I'm rather annoyed at the fact we know the pc is dragonborn. WTF, thanks for taking away the opening twist, fellas.

Agreed. Though to be fair, I'm starved for ANY alternative to the "big three." I'm kinda getting tired of that formula.

I agree, but then again, it's a bit hard for Bethesda to advertise their fancy new Dragon Shouts without also giving that away.
