Must we have to do this?

Post » Fri Jul 22, 2011 7:57 am

I do like OWB but there was one thing that did not make any sense to me as to why we must do this. Now perhaps I had not done the right things to get the desired results, or perhaps my game may have been glitched, but I was wondering if anyone else had to do the same or not?
Spoiler

I was wondering if anyone had the option of not having to kill Mobious? I cannot understand why we cannot side with him let alone just talk out the situation with him. He seemed pleasant and knew of the bigger threat that was posed if he had not taken the actions he did. The fact that we were able to talk in length with him and that there was a dialog option that said "I do not want to harm you" (or something along those lines) makes me wonder: why were we forced to kill him? Was there a specific way of having to make it so we could not have to kill him? Was there perhaps a glitch that happened that made it so the dialog for a peaceful conclusion with Mobious had disappeared? Or is that our only option: to kill Mobious?

If the third option is true then why do we get the option of letting a savage like Salt-Upon-Wounds live in Honest Hearts? Mobious seemed like more of rationalist than anything and IMO was worth saving.

So I ask again: Did anyone have the option of keeping Mobious alive or for those who have the PC version know of any dialog options or endings with Mobious still intact?

I didn't kill him, I wasn't railroaded to either; just walked out with my brain so I don't know what you did.

I talked to him. I was given no other choice when trying to exit out of conversation. I had no idea that we could just walk out with our brain.

Both Mobieus and the Think Tank can be left "alive", but I think it requires a sorta-high speech check and/or certain perks.

The thing is that I was able to pass all of the checks. Perhaps I was not supposed to?

Quite the opposite, which is why I am asking. If it is such a piece of cake, why not share a slice?

Well at least others have confirmed that Mobious can be saved. I will just have to try again and see if I can pinpoint the mistake I made toward going for a peaceful ending.

I couldn't save the Think Tank. I took my brain with me to have a chat with them and there was no way to avoid the fight. It had nothing to do with paying careful attention to dialog and it had absolutely nothing at all to do with any skill check whatsoever -- I initiated conversation with Klein and the ONLY option was a fight.

And with Mobius? Once I talked to him, it did not matter what I said because after every single dialog option (every.single.option) was exhausted (and I passed every one of HIS skill checks) the ONLY (only!) option left was: "I'm here to kill you."

I don't know how to save the Think Tank, but I'm guessing that the only way to 'save' Mobius is to not talk to him at all.

Saving him required that I complete all the other think tanks personal quests, like finding Borous dog, letting Dala get heavy over our breathing, figure out Dr.0's name, and help number 8 speak, prior to talking to Dr. Mobious, and there was a science check of 100 when I finally spoke to kim, but essentiallly you'll trick Klien and the others and Mobious lives. I had already done the personal quest prior to telling Mobious that I'd hunted everything down, so that might be important.
It does change the ending slide to show the think tanks still at work, so it's definately worth doing.

I was able to save both. Mobius seemed fairly easy to get through (getting my brain without getting stuck in the dialog loop is another story) by just being nice to him. If I'm recalling correctly, there's a fairly straightforward way to save the Think Tank, too, but it's got a decently high Speech check right at the beginning of the dialog with them.

You have to talk to him about getting your brain back in order to unlock it. You might be able to dump out of the dialog after that point, but I think it will leave the quest hanging.

There's a bug in the conversation path, in that it's possible to reach a point where the only way to end the convo is the "I want to kill you" option. However, if you talk to him and ask him about his motives, you should eventually get back to a conversation with the option that lets you leave without violence. "I have to go" or something.

It would seem that the options to save them are hidden within bland dialog choices and speech checks that don't seem to be of importance, but are. That or it's a bug, as mentioned above. There's just way too many people here saying they couldn't save one or the other.

I know this isn't the case. I was able to save both yet I didn't do all the Think Tank side quests.

I can say that if you want the Think tank to live, choose the FIRST OPTION when you approach them the final time. All three look confrontational, but the first is the one that opens up more dialog options.

I kept Mobius alive and there was even an ending slide of him being alive, sounds like you messed up.

I saved everyone in my game.
