How to Disable the Mousepad

Post » Sat Jul 23, 2011 2:19 am

I'm sorry if this is the wrong section entirely, but I have no clue what to do. For some reason my touchpad on my laptop isn't disabling. I used the function key so it says: "TouchPad Disable". I also went on my control panel to disable it there. For some reason it won't STOP functioning. I have to type in a difficult manner. Sometimes what I type is deleted, sometimes I'm looking at a different page, and sometimes I opened up a program. I am soooo [censored] tempted to physically remove the god forsaken piece of [censored]. Any advice?
Update- Is this another one of those Windows [censored] moments or is it something else?

Does it show up in the device manager? You could try uninstalling the whole device.

You can get there by going Control Panel> System> Device Manager. (on both XP and Vista/7)

HID compliant mouse and Microsoft PS/2 Mouse appears. I am currently using an "iHome" mouse in a USB port.
I just uninstalled PS/2 and restarted my computer. I discovered which one was my usb mouse by simply taking it out and watching it disappear from my options. The touch pad is now completely disabled. Thanks for the advice!

Does it show up in a another category, like input devices? The Microsoft mouse may be it, but it could also just be the PS/2 port if you have one.

Also some drivers have an option to disable the touchpad when you plug in a mouse. The properties of the touchpad can usually be accessed by right-clicking the systemtray icon.

If none of the above works, then I guess you'll just have to mail your laptop to me.
