Name: Gaius Augustus Caesar Born: Maps
Age: Twenty-Four
Date of Birth: August 13th, 2257.
Faction: Caesar's Legion
Rank: Caesar's Heir
- Dux of the XIII Legion 'Aquila'
Physical Appearance: 5'11" in Height, slim, and well developed yet his body isn't bursting with muscles, this allows him to be much more agile than some of his cohorts. His face is angular with soft, attractive features with short curly mousey-blonde hair and blue eyes.
Personality: Augustus favourite quotation is, "
Scientia potentia est." Knowledge is power. Knowledge is something that Augustus has been undeniably been gifted with, especially with his own knowledge of the Romans. Which is why Caesar kept him close at hand for all these years.
Despite loving his adoptive father, Augustus maturity over the years has shown him to be a less harsh leader than his namesake. Know for giving enemies he considers worthy one opportunity of surrender and to be absolved into the Legion, and one opportunity is all that they get. As a military leader is his swift and brutal, able to jump instantly on his enemies mistakes, he commands by inspiration rather than fear, and cares for the live of his legionaries as he would not needlessly lead them to their deaths to secure a shameful victory.
While merciful to what he judges as a worthy enemy who fought well, certain tribes who he finds to be beyond enlightening, he's has wiped out, believing them to be of no benefit to the legion. Though this may also be down to some tribes reminding him of his own, which motivates him towards the action of removing them from history.
He is also known for his punishment. Should the crime be less serious in nature, he will allow a trial with a fine, or a flogging. Depending on what occurred, more serious crimes such as traitors, raqers, murders, and any sort of criminal or raider activity warrants execution or crucifixion. And the more serious the crime, the longer criminal in question will suffer.
Personally he's quiet in nature if not somewhat reserved, often found around loyal friends or alone where he will be found reading or writing, something along the lines of literature or regards to the Legion. He's has good rein on his anger yet his grip can easily slip, especially amongst the stubborn, the arrogant, and possess a strong hate of drug and frequent alcohol users. He regards both as tools for weak minds.
History: Augustus was born on the 13th of August, 2257 in southern Colorado to a tribe know as the Nordiques. A unexceptional tribe with a savage history, and being the strongest of the all the other tribes in the area. Were in control of the territory.
Augustus was born under the name of Maps. His mother died during child birth with himself a small, meek baby that barely survived. Which already established his position within his tribe as a 'failed-man' a unofficial, but extremely embarrassing title, especially for a society that valued strength. His father took this extremely hard as he was regarded as one of the tribes finest warriors, and for him to sire such a child and to lose his wife, was a great dishonour.
As Maps grew, his life became no easier. Though his health improved he struggled to adapt to his tribes way of life. Constant beatings from his father was a daily event, the idea was to beat the nail in till in was down, the other problem was the rest of the tribe was missing the head of the nail. Only helping in the brewing of the bitterness and resentment in him.
Since he was considered unfit for hunting or fighting, he was sent among the women and other failed-men. Tasks involved the roles that women could and couldn't do. Despite the embarrassment, this allowed him to befriend and grow close to Gabriella. A girl of extraordinary beauty, and displayed kindness and virtue that was rare in his life. He grew to love the girl but the fact that nothing would be allowed between then as she was already betrothed to the Chieftains son, who would no doubt kill him if he found out how he felt, sunk him down to a deeper into his depression.
Though he was not the strongest of his tribe, he soon discovered he was the smartest. Even though his tribe had no need for intelligence, he did. He chanced up a abandoned building known as a Library which would become his sanctuary, his place of safety. All the books were remarkably intact and well kept, Maps taught himself how to read. He read book after book, fuelling his knowledge, teaching himself other things like how to write. He decided to find as much information in order to aid his escape from this life he was trapped in. It was then where he chanced upon a book about a figure, 'Napoleon Bonaparte' a great man from before the Great War. The discovery of Napoleon led him to other great military leaders, Fredrick the Great, William the Conqueror, Sun Tzu, Alexander the Great and finally the one that came to define his philosophy on life; Julius Caesar.
Maps came to admire the Romans, and figures such as Caesar, Augustus, Constantine and Aurelius. Alas, he was unaware that his fantasy was soon to become reality.
Still determined to go through with his escape plan, with a rucksack filled with stolen food and water he was prepared to leave, however, the exploits of his idles made him much bolder and confident. Sneaking into Gabriella's family hut. He attempted to persuade her to leave with him, a brief game of quiet verbal tennis occurred as she also tried to convince him to remain behind but he was firm on leaving, and for a brief moment he believed that she was going to agree to accompany him, if they were not interrupted.
He was dragged outside by her father, and beaten. He then called out for the tribe's chief. Gabriella's father informed the chief and the elders that Maps had attempted to steal his daughters maidenhood, a heinous crime considering it was saved for the chieftain's son. The chiefs son then proceeded to beat Maps to near death. As he lay on the ground he turned and could make out the image of his father, disappointment across his face, but kept watching his son be beat as if to say.
"You deserve this."It was only at the pleadings of Gabriella to not kill him. Which speared him death, momentarily. Knowing that they tribe would not give him mercy she pleaded for the tribe to hunt him rather than kill him now. Sadist as the Chief son was, he agreed.
Broken and bloodied, Maps was given till the rising sun before the tribesmen would come after him. But in his state he was struggling already and sought out his library one last time. upon entering he found himself facing men of unknown origin, he was grabbed and a collar placed around his neck and bag over his head.
Had he not heard hear one of the mention Caesar, things would had been different. Although Maps was talking about Caesar of BC they mistook what he was talking about as reference to their own Caesar. The bag taken off his head and collar removed, Maps came to meet Praetorian Lucius. Who found it difficult to believe the child who claimed not to of heard about the Legion but possessed a large amount of knowledge about his leader. He decided to bring the child before Caesar himself.
Caesar initially reprimand Lucius for bringing him a child. Maps upon meeting Caesar called out his bluff, by announcing that he was not the real Julius Caesar. The saying "
Fortes fortuna adiuvat" Fortune favours the bold, had never been truer as the boy suddenly caught Caesars attention. Ordering his men out of his tent, he began to question the boy, test him, he found himself someone who knew as much about the Roman Empire as he did, maybe even more and for a tribal the discovery confounded the man. And the more they talked, the more he grew to like the boy.
Caesar believed that Maps had been sent by Mercury, and blessed by Minerva. He felt that he had felt a suitable heir to his Empire. Caesar then promised to extract revenge against The Nordiques. As the tribesmen began to set out on the hunt for Maps, they found themselves drawn into a ambush. Maps relived in the death of those who had beaten him, the years of hatred began to boil over, they captured the Chief's son in the ensuring skirmish while the rest were killed.
They then marched on to his tribes settlement and forced their way in. Rounding up the remaining Nordiques. Maps finally had the opportunity to avenge everything that had happened to him, in his rage he demanded Caesar that the entire tribe be killed, save two of them. Caesar was initially hesitant before agreeing. As long as Maps would kill the Chief's son.
Caesar handed him the blade, if he was really suitable to be the heir he needed, then he would do what needed to be done. Maps didn't even stop to think, he opened the throat of the Chief's son, the blood that peppered face was his baptism. He was now Legion.
That night Caesar renamed him
Augustus.
He spent his early Legion life under the tutelage of Lucius, while being regularly check upon Caesar. Thirteen years of age, the teaching methods were brutal, he needed to catch up with the other young men that had been training since birth. But unlike his life with his tribe, he adapted, when he did something wrong he was told what it was, drilled till he got it right, rather than beaten for the mistake. The resentment and anger for his tribe still remained but with time, the fires began to diminish as he began to mature. Around this time also he began to visit Gabriella again, who finally managed settled into Legion life as a priestess but there was a wall between them. To her, the sweet boy she knew as Maps had changed into something she hated. Augustus loved her, but he also knew she resented what he became.
Augustus began his first military command under Malpais Legate as the Legion began their first push into the Mojave, '
Nova Roma' New Rome. Shining like a jewel in the distance. He did not enjoy his time under Malpais, he was not the most brilliant commander as he, like Lanius, led by fear. But they scored numerous victories against the New California Republic, a enemy of which Augustus felt was a worthy nation for the Legion to contend with rather than tribes. He grew respect Malpais as he managed to see some of Joshua Graham from time to time, he believe that if that man was around more then maybe he could lead the Legion more effectively.
But all went wrong at the First Battle of Hoover Dam. Augustus and his Legion was deployed on Malpais rear. He was infuriated by given a babysitting position while the rest of the legion rushed the Dam. Later he would retract his statement and a sudden lesson in patience blew up before him. He watched as scores of legionaries were caught in the explosion of Boulder City. Malpais own arrogance and blindness to the situation handed victory to the NCR. Augustus attempted to rally as many legionaries as he could before retreating beyond the Dam before the NCR could cut them off.
He was there at the Grand Canyon and watched Malpais; Joshua Graham burn and fall down the great below to his death. Augustus does not share his adoptive fathers paranoia with the idea that the Joshua Graham ghost is seeking revenge and his belief that the amount of scouts and assassins he sends after his ghost is a waste of time.
As a stalemate formed between the NCR and the Legion, and rebuilding began on both sides. Caesar gave Augustus full command over the XIII Legion, and sent him to Utah to finally put down the Daughters of Hecate who began to push into Legion territory. As expected, him and his men perform admirably in the field of battle. He also secured a alliance with the Iron Lines who had long been hounded by the Daughters and Vipers, impressed by Augustus himself they later pledged to be absolved into the Legion, specially, Augustus own Legionaries to which he puts to use as his advance scouts.
Augustus scored several victories despite being outnumbered, the war was short and brought to a quick end once he had crushed the Vipers and the clans that allied with Hecate out of fear of the Legion, soon after the Daughters soon fell into line, providing several slaves and wives for his soldiers. And his crowning glory? Capturing Hecate herself. He had her crucified bodied paraded around Flagstaff after Caesar named him acting Imperator of the capital in his absence.
Now Caesar as called his son back to the Mojave to finish what they started. Jupiter and Mars willing, New Vegas shall become their
Nova Roma.
