Swift Learner

Post » Wed Jul 27, 2011 2:51 am

With the level cap approaching level 50, I am starting to think the perk Swift Learner would actually be useful for a new character. Possibly even two ranks. Otherwise it is going to take forever to get to a high level.

Does anyone ever take this perk?

No it's a waste of a perk slot.

Well, according to the Wiki it takes 67K XP to reach level 30. However, it takes another 53K XP to reach level 40 and then another 67K XP to hit level 50! That is a ton!

So, here is a better question, has anyone hit the current level cap without glitches and how many hours did you drop on that character?

I went from 40 to 45 just doing OWB. Which was a delight. I think I gained maybe two levels found dead money and HH together. Of course I'm on the PS3 so I had to quit playing so I don't hit 46 and burn a Lonesome Road perk.

It's totally a waste since you can probably get to 35-40 without any DLCs.

The DLCs are what allow you to get to 35-40.

If you mean having them but not completing them then I agree, especially if played on very hard.

I am one of the few who seem to like this perk, and I always have. Even with it I have yet to hit lvl cap, but I don't farm xp either.

It was always a bad perk unfortunately.

It's not a bad perk, it's just that it doesn't sit well with the whole "1 perk every 2 levels" system. I have the "perk every level" mod so I usually take Swift Learner once.

I have a perk mod of my own and keep going back and forth between every level and every two levels, but in both cases I never take Swift Learner as I always have something else I'd rather take instead. I have occasionally considered it, but it has the problem of being overkill at low levels and not really enough at high levels, especially if you take multiple ranks.

@ Oreo and GM - I am using a perk every level mod, so that is one of the main reasons why I am thinking about picking it up.

If you had all three ranks and were diligent about having the well rested benefit, your character would hit level 30 when a normal character would hit 25. You would hit 50 when another character hit level 42.

Just not sure if that is really worth 3 perks. Ha, even with a perk a level I still and hard pressed to take all the perks I want!

The old character that I have been using to do the DLCs with when they're released did vast tracks of the game gaining no XP during the breaks between DM, HH and OWB. In OWB I went from level 40 to 45 about 2/3 of the way through the DLC's content. A fresh character with the skilled trait should have no problems hitting a level 50 cap with tons of content still to play. Do whatever in the Mojave until level 20, then start running through the DLCs and you should be pretty close to level 50 once that's done.

So yeah, pick rapid reload or intense training for your level 2 perk.

Taking swift learner means you actually loose out on an ability giving perk.... so your kinda flushing a perk down the toilet for the sake of hurring up....

I wouldnt be too worried about level cap... a well planned lvl 40+ char beats a gimpped lvl 50.

I just never find it worthwhile, as I tend to take RP or survival perks instead when I use the 'per level' version and only the 'core' perks (those I consider must-haves for the character) when using the 'every two levels' version. Granted, I don't have a character at 40 or higher to assess the added perk slots against what's available given my skill levels, but I suspect it wouldn't matter, especially in the 'every two levels' case.

waste of a perk, at all times..even when your not farming, your bound to hit lvl.40 in no time just by playing the Mohave, not even touching the DLC's yet, seriously..and now, that I think of it, Educated is becoming to look less useful (that or Comprehension) because of these 50 levels..
