Free Roam aka play after the end

Post » Wed Jul 27, 2011 8:16 am

Hey folks,

In FO3 there was a mod that enabled you to play after the end... Is there a mod for NV as well or do the DLCs add the possibilty? I've just got NV with all 3 DLCs and loaded some nice mods and wanna start playing now. However, I want to keep playing after the end, as I read that you can easily beat the main quest in 3 or 4 hours... But I want to freely explore the wasteland after I've finished the main quest and chose the factions I want to be allied with.

Please tell me that it's possible somehow...

They devs will not make a DLC which allows the player to play after the game. I'm sure there is a mod on the nexus that allows you to do this.

Edit: There are a few but they aren't that good, buggy and have CTDs at certain points.

the zion one was okay, old world blues was good. but if they realy want their hard work to be meant for something they have to make something like broken steel, this svcks.

The game is totally [censored] up then... I guess I can never finish the main quest then. Anyone's got an idea what the last mission is?

The game gives you a warning that there's no going back when you trigger the final part...

Obviously, you've never played any FO games before 3. All of the other FO games ended with the exception of 2; and that was an easter egg...a joke if you will. FO3 is the exception, not the rule.

LOL

Dead Money owned, Zion was ok and I haven't played OWB.

I love Fallout 3, but Broken Steel was Bull [censored]. They made up all of that so players could play after the beat the game, the whole story line was poorly written.

I'm sure everyone has a good idea when the last mission is... It tells you.

The game makes a save file when you initiate the final showdown. You can also keep a save file prepared so that you can do the end and revert back to it for more wandering.

In my opinion, the endings of Fallout games are supposed to be done when you have finished wandering around and doing everything you can in the wastes. Theoretically the ending will reflect most, if not all, side quests you have completed so doing them first would make the slides more interesting. That is just how I roll though. I really wish RPGs that allow a lot of freedom would make the final bosses super tough (not bullet sponge... I mean difficult!) so that there is an actual incentive to preparing as much as possible for that final encounter. The Master and Frank Horrigan(sp?) were pretty bad ass and would wipe the floor with you... while the FO3 Enclave were pretty much a joke. Some of the combatants at the Dam are dangerous and I died quite a few times during the final sequence. My first run-through the game was on V. Hard and hardcoe settings though.

Same here. IMAO, Bethesda can't hold a candle to Black Isle/ Obsidian in terms of writing/story. And that's a hallmark of the Fallout series: the story, not "Hurr durr, I'm gonna nuke this Super Mutant."

A large part of the reason for them extending play in Broken Steel was that FO3's original ending svckED. It completely ignored the presence of at least one, if not both, radiation-immune companion(s) who could have gone in instead of you and essentially railroaded you into either sacrificing yourself or being a jerkass and making Sarah Lyons do it.

F:NV does not have this problem, and as such does not need a 'fix' DLC to correct it. Furthermore, even if you were allowed to play post-MQ, there would be nothing to do because all the quests would be locked out, as they deal with the preparations leading up to Second Hoover Dam and it would make absolutely no sense if they were still available. There's also the issue of potentially invalidating the ending you created through your choices and actions, since there would be nothing stopping you from, say, obliterating Goodsprings after originally saving it and turning it into a tourist trap. I, for one, would be thoroughly disgusted if all my work was rendered null through something like that.

As for blowing through the main quest in, like, 3-4 hours, that's only if you ignore everything but the main quest, which, IMO, is missing the point. If you actually work with one of the factions and do the tasks they need of you, it can easily take 10x that long or more and you'll learn quite a bit about the area and the people in it in the process. Of course, if you want to just blast through the main quest, then by all means do so; with that character finished you can then make another who takes things more slowly.

If you're on a PC then it is possible to play post-MQ if you have one of the mods that enable it installed, however I understand that they're not all that good so you might want to avoid them. As for a DLC that does this, you're out of luck, as they have categorically stated that this will not happen under any circumstances.

What's stopping you? It's not like you could do everything in one run anyway.... or load a save before the final quest after finishing it.
