Are the first two Fallouts worth buying?

I'm a BIG fan of Fallout 3 and NV but I've never played the first two. I wanted to know if they are worth buying.

Yes of course they are worth buying, some of the best RPGs in history. The gameplay for the originals is a bit more complex than the newer games, your stats and skills are more important that what you're used to. There's little to no hand-holding either, you must figure things out on your own so be warned. Turn-based combat may throw you at first and can be unforgiving at times, you need to take a more strategic and defensive stance in the originals and not just go in guns blazing,

If you can get past the widely different gameplay and get into them you may find the originals to be very enjoyable. I still very much enjoy Fallout 1 and 2 even though I've had them since they came out :)

Oh and give Tactics a try after you play 1 and 2, it can be quite fun as well.

 These threads, I swear, raise my blood pressure. Yes for the love of Maxson, YES! They're very much worth the money.

I'm just being honest of how my interactions with the OP have assured me that he wont like the original games.

That's not guaranteed, Boradam played Fallout 3 first and jumped on the earlier games and loved them.

Very much so, yes.

~But it depends on one's personal appreciations.

If you like either game from the start, then both will be fantastic for you; If you don't, they will still both be informative.

I would suggest watching the first videos in a few Fallout: Lets plays' on Youtube; (but only the first or second ones in a set).

Ah, okay.

And yes, like Gizmo said, watch Let's Play's, best way to see if the gameplay strikes your preference.

A three pack of the orignals is cheaper than a single DLC...just buy them. DO IT! If you don't like the games, the disk will make a nice coaster :vaultboy:
