Mage/Atronach/Willpower

Ok so if i was to use the birth sign Atronach, then wouldn't that negate the whole purpose of utilizing points into willpower? Now I did some research online, and i get a 50/50 on this and i need pure confirmation from real players! The wiki says if players take Atronach then there is no need for putting points into willpower, now, other people on the internet like to say willpower also decreases the amount of magicka cost per spell in the category i.e (restoration, alteration, etc.) and that it also is needed to be maxed out to use master level spells in that category... Now if that's all true then IS it worth it to put points? or is the wiki right when saying its not.

You have some inaccurate info. Willpower has two effects:

1. It improves the speed at which you regenerate magicka - this feature is useless to an atronach.
2. Your fatigue number is the sum of your willpower, strength, endurance and agility. Given that fatigue is normally not a problem and that willpower plays only a small part in determining fatigue, I submit that willpower is not worth the investment for fatigue.

When I play an atronach character, I totally ignore willpower.

Willpower does nothing more than the two things I mentioned above. :)

Master level spells are available when you achieve master level in the relevant magic school, pure and simple.
Decreasing the cost of casting spells is done by increasing one's skill in the school of magic involved.

Thats one good thing about being an Atronach mage. You can effectively ignore willpower and focus purely on increasing intelligence for extra magicka, whereas a mage born under the Mage birthsign for example would likely spread their attributes out among intelligence and willpower, meaning less overall magicka as they have an extra attribute to worry about. In Morrowind theres no natural magicka regeneration, you only regen when resting, and willpower in that game determines your magicka resistance and chance to successfully cast a spell, so it is still useful for an Atronach, but in Oblivion willpower is purely about magicka regeneration and a minor influence on fatigue which isnt important, as other attributes influence fatigue as well, and even more so.
