This is a tad bit late. For instance, third person camera and combat were both fixed to the best of our knowledge from interviews, pictures, and videos of skyrim. Since it is obvious many of the things you will see in Bethesda's upcoming game skyrim will carry over into fallout 4. Not that I am comparing them.
As for game type, it is not a FPS, fallout 3 & NV are both RPFPS Role Playing First Person Shooters that have the option of third that thanks to latest improvements is viable substitute.
At any rate, pov should never be forced on anyone. We should not be forced to stay with one, this is why we have both. So a better suggestion would be allow us to pick at the start which mode we want to play in.
I'm not talking about Skyrim. I would prefer a whole separate game. The idea that Fallout was simply "Oblivion with guns" would hold truth to it if you replace the word with "Skyrim" for Fallout 4, according to your argument.
The problem with the option that was offered is that the third person view took a backseat, as far as quality. I would have less of a problem with a choice of point of view if both were high quality options.
EDIT: Once again, my view for the future are largely based in what is possible and what was done in the original Fallout games. They were third person views, exclusively, and I enjoyed that. I'm not saying the unlimited (overhead) view is right for the future, but other games have done third person exclusive views and done them well, and they're appropriate for a Fallout game.
