Intelligence issues

Hello forum! I purchased Oblivion 3 days ago, and I am about 20 hours in already(yay summer break!), loving it so far!

I have however, run into a small issue concerning Intelligence as well as my amount of Magicka. Being at level 17, I have only ONCE experienced that Intelligence can be boosted by more than 1 upon levelup, whereas every other skill sporadically changes between +1 and +4. This makes upping my Intelligence feel very redundant, and is probably why my Magicka is only at a mere 174, which seems ridiculously low when looking at higher level spells.

So, how can I make my Intelligence go up with more than 1 per level?

use more inteligence skills, like alchemy, mysticism and conjuration. the more you use them the more level ups for inteligence you get each time you level up. if you want a +5 (which is the max) then you have to level up any inteligence related skill by 10 points during leveling from (as example) 17 to 18. this can be in any combination (or at least i think). 4x conjuration, 3x alchemy and 3x mysticism. or 10x alchemy, ... when you level up an intelligence related skill more then 10 times, the eleventh time will count towards the next level.

i hope this made sence to you.

At the risk of spoilers, you could visit UESP Wiki (UESP = Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages) for tips on levelling, efficient levelling, etc. Being that you only bought the game 3 days ago, my recommendation is to avoid all internet help for the first five or six characters you make, and just experience all the playstyles the game has to offer, find the items on your own, do the quests on your own, etc. You will get far more playtime out of the game this way, and come to love it the same way some of the members here do! Happy adventuring!
