If you had the option of joining only one guild

Post » Fri Jul 29, 2011 8:30 am

So yeah, if you could only be a member of one guild in Skyrim, which would you chose?

Despite my character being good and largely law-abiding, he was raised a thief, and his home is the Thieve's Guild.

That is, if I use my character from Oblivion.

Definitely The Dark Brotherhood for me. They were my favorite guild from Oblivion, and I like to be an assassin.

I hope it's this way. Allows for a much more unique experience depending on which kind of build you go for.

I would go Companions on my first playthrough, and then probably do a mage, then a thief character.

The College of Winterhold. My character is many things, but Master of The Magical arts is likely foremost among them. His destiny is to lead the Mages of Skyrim, and to give them power and protection in the province.

Well, my first character is going to be a warrior type hero, so he would definitely join the Companions. Even if Skyrim makes the same mistake and allows the player to join all these guilds in one playthrough, I'm only joining one guild, whichever makes sense for my character type.

Doesn't the Companions guild named after or refer to the 500 Companions who returned to Skyrim with Ysgramor and kicked the elves out.

Nope, and I shouldnt have to in order to appreciate the a good name. Thats been pretty explicitly outlined multiple times in interviews with todd, and why everything is getting streamlined (for better or worse).

Same, if they make it so you can only join one those writing the questlines wouldnt have to worry so much about conflicting questlines and thus allow them to make the individual questlines have a bigger impact on the world thus making the world turn out differently from a player who chose a different questline.

I dunno, only joining one guild would mean leaving out three thirds of the guild content on a single playthrough.

Maybe the Mages are at odds with the thieves, the warriors with the Dark Brotherhood, making it possible to only complete two guilds per playthrough.

I suspect every guild will be joinable on one play through simply for the mass appeal of it. Lots of folks would be pissed they couldn't join a guild. Plus, the reputation system is said to only hold within each city so that would seem to imply guilds in different cities won't take into accounts the actions of a player in another city.

Of course, I don't know, just my speculation.

Dark Brotherhood could necessarily be considered like a necromancer guild, right?

It depends on my character really(which there will be several of). Though If I had to choose just 1 guild to be in the game I'd probably go with the DB, as I thought they were most well written and interesting quests in Oblivion.

You mean they will serve as an enemy guild for one of the factions and wont be joinable? I agree, if the Dark Brotherhood are in the game they will most likely serve as an enemy faction like the Necromancers, the Mythic Dawn or the Blackwood Company.

Winterhold. And my nerdrage over not being able to join the others would compel me to wipe them out completely so as to achieve my objective of being a member of every active guild. If ya can't join 'em, beat 'em.

I'm not sure which one I would choose.

I gotta say though while I personaly only like to join one guild, I don't want them to take it away from players who don't.
Being able to join more then one leads to more replaying, like people who want to play a mage whos secretly a member of the DB, I don't want to take taht away from people who want it.

Dark Brotherhood. The art of assassination is my way of life. Either I'll join the DB, or I'll just find me a safehouse to set up shop in, and go freelance. That sounds just as appealing, considering that most assassins in fantasy lore tend to be loners.
