steam or not to steam

Post » Sat Jul 30, 2011 3:22 am

i would like to play fallout new vegas with the dlc stuff.
thing is the steam version of new vegas is $49.99 and on a couple of other sites i can get a new disk of the game for $19.99
i dont see a reason to spend twice the amount for the steam version. so if i buy it from those other sites can i get the dlc from
steam? and will they work together? does the steam dlc only work with the steam version of new vegas? if i cant use the steam
dlc with a disk version of new vegas, were do i get the dlc from? and what would the cost be? i know the steam dlc is $9.99 each.
thank you for your time.

You can buy the disc and install it. It WILL run through steam no matter where you get it. Steam games are Steam games if you buy a disk retail or download it. Yes. the DLC's will work with it.

thank you for the answer. i cant figur out why steam would charge so much for the game. do they think people wont check around for pricing? the only thing i could
think of was that they were making it so you had to buy from them to use the dlc stuff.

Everyone runs special offers at different times. It could be a weekend deal on Steam soon if you noticed it somewhere else.. I got Portal 2 from Amazon about a month ago for 20 bucks. It was still 50 everywhere else. It pays to look around. If for no other reason running games through Steam keep the automaticly up to date. Saves us from having to check for patched for all the games we have. Plus you can back up your local content anytime and write them to DVD as you please. There are many advantages to Steam.

People run sales all the time. It does pay to shop around. Plus, are you sure it was not Fallout 3 that you saw for $19?

In any event, no matter where you buy the game, you can use Steam to get the DLCs later on. DLCs may become available on disk in the coming months, however I have seen no plans or announcements for that. Same with GOTY, as to if, when and what DLCs will be on that package.

You also have to use Steam to activate the game, but after that you have no disk check to play the game.

I will close this thread as our policy is to close Steam related threads once the answer is given. If you want to discuss Steam and gaming, including this and any other Bethesda games with Steam, use this thread please
