Fixed amount you can carry?

Post » Sat Jul 30, 2011 5:33 am

I ONLY carry what I myself would be able to carry... so this makes no difference. I cannot enjoy TES when I have 25 swords in my invent, 10 helmets, and 100 healing potions.

I cannot enjoy TES if I can't pick up some of that vast amount of loot that drops.

Personally I think if stamina really affects the weight you can carry it's a bad idea - yet another game mechanic not thought through by Bethesda. There are three attributes now - health, which is the main attribute for warriors, magicka, which is the main attribute for mages and stamina, which is the main attribute for thieves.

If stamina affects carrying capacity that means thieves will become pack mules, while warriors won't be able to carry more stuff than a chicken-briasted mage. Unless they evenly divide their attribute bonus on level up between health and stamina. In which case they still won't be able to carry as much as a pure thief and on the other hand won't have as much health as a pure warrior should have.

While at first glance it makes sense to use stamina for determining carrying capacity I think health would be better suited. Or strength, but that was a redundant attribute as we all know.

I don't think either of the 3 archetypes get attribute bonuses upon level up? When we level we choose one of the 3 attributes to boost, so a Warrior, Mage, and Thief won't get more then the other.

So it means I can't edit it to be 50 pounds without affecting the stamina variable and all related things? :sadvaultboy:

Ya i was thinking like the poster you responded to as well. But if you know that stamina governs say sprint duration and encumberance you just choose as much of that as you like to go along with how much hit points and magicka pool you like.So stamina basicly is the governer of attributes.I get what youre saying. But i do imagine like he was saying a warrior standing toe to toe will typicaly pick more health a mage needs more magicka a stealth type could get away with less of these and probably carry more.

What do you mean? I meant that naturally a pure mage will put most if not all of his attribute boosts into magicka, while a pure thief will do the same for stamina and a pure warrior will do the same for health. Simply because for casting spells a large mana pool is the most important thing, for being stealthy it is most important to be quick and agile and to have the possibility to run away if the situation requires it and for melee combat it is most important to have a good constitution so you can take a few hits before you get into trouble while fighting close range.

If carrying capacity is governed by stamina that means thieves will be the pack mules warriors should be, while warriors will not be able to carry more than a mage.

Stamina, just like Fatigue, is crucial for combat.

And it's even more crucial to have a large amount of health. And for thieves it's even more crucial to have high stamina. So a thief will be able to carry much more than a warrior. Which doesn't make sense imo.

EDIT: I mean it's pretty obvious that the three attributes are each connected to one of the 'pure classes'. If you look at the removed attributes then strength and endurance (typical warrior attributes) should be merged into the health attribute, while intelligence and willpower (typical mage attributes) should be merged into the magicka attribute, while agility and speed (typical thief attributes) should be merged into the stamina attribute. Luck and personality are gone or implemented elsewhere. If stamina affects carrying capacity then endurance is equal to health, while stamina is equal to agility, speed and strength.

I get what your saying thats why i figured health would govern encumberance but warriors will need stamina as well but i could see it being easyer to be a looting fiend as a thief which is kind of fitting but i also would picture a warrior as the stronger guy.The mage will eb the one who will take some balanceing but mages can get by with less health as they can heal alot and quick with spells.

Boo Hoo I want attributes back Wah wa wa :cheat:

GET OVER IT

stamina is a great attribute with out spread [censored] madness, just pretend your getting stronger, its just a name for God's sake, stamina, strength, endurance ... whatever it does it game play job then its good

so we got

stamina which is basically strength
health which is basically endurance
magicka which is basically intelligence

speed depends on how long you can sprint and what your wearing thats great...
agility depends on how well you can move your frigging directional keys
willpower.... what the hell did it do in the first place??!!
luck is luck i don't get why it needs to be a skill or attribute, you either win the Lottery or you don't :P
personality will just have to depend on your new stealth skill whatever it may be.

I sincerely hope Heath/magicka/stamina aren't supposed to replacing anything, because trying to make stamina a replacement for thief stats is much worse than the supposed redundancy of attributes.

Why, you couldn't edit it to be 50 pounds without affecting the strength and all related things?
