Dragon Fighting Tactics

Post » Sun Jul 31, 2011 3:19 pm

Based on what you know and what you want to be- What will be your tactics for taking down a dragon?

(btw- there's a great cheesy movie called http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sjMdYnOZ_k on SyFy right now.)

Run to the nearest building or woods for bombing run cover, use magic to make 'em fall, and then stab it in the face.....repeatedly

Well I'll open with a frost base shout (my characters prefers frost attacks). Then I'll ready my katana and a good defensive spell.

As the dragons sweeps past I'll cut at him, while defending his attacks with my magic. Continually calling on my frost shouts untill I have forced him to the ground. (My sword with likely have a burden or drain fatigue enchantment, but it's doubtful these effects can affect dragons)

Once on the ground, I'll deploy my daedra attack force (Ideally it is a golden saint and dark seducer) and turn invisible. While my minions assult the dragon, I'll periodically reveal myself with surprise attacks.

The fight ends with a final ice shard barrage and my blade being embedded in the dragon's skull.

Dragon combat should consist of a mixture of riddles and insults: YOU FIGHT LIKE A DAIRY FARMER, could be one of the shouts?

Or perhaps there could be a branch of Myth-matics hidden in the runes, allowing for the clever use of equations to prove the Dragon couldn't exist?

Or the game could further cater to the casual crowd by having a mini-game where one has to match rows of the coloured gems found in the dragon's treasure?

No? Oh.

Then I guess I'll just spam the left mouse button while pretending to ignore the reality of a 100 to 200lbs biped confronting 1 3/4 ton magic breathing flying reptile... Whatever, it has to better than Witcher 2

I wonder what a pure melee character who has no offensive spells or archery skill will do with a flying creature? Hopefully it will come to the ground without being injured. Maybe you start with a dragon shout?

I'll start by scanning my environment, seeing how I can use the terrain to my advantage.
The general attack will be to use my bow, hit and run until it lands. Hit it with a force shout, cut as much as I can with dual swords, run a lap around it as I do so. I'll also hit it with a time slowing shout if I need to give myself distance.

The tactics will change according to terrain. In a wooded area, I'll be using the trees for a dip and dodge tactic. In a field, It will be a mix of 'fight or flight.' Mountain, I'll definitely be fighting on the run until I can face it in an open area.

I only worry about the night attacks.

yes i plan to be Pure melee myself, but i would't want the Dragon to just land on the ground and let me beat him to death, that would seem cheap...maybe use dragon shouts to hurt the dragon or something but i wouldnt want the dragon to land just because im pure melee >.<

I'm excited about night attacks, imagine running along the forest on a bright moonlit night to see a vague shadow quickly cross your path. You freeze and hold your breath in as you dart your gaze to the clouds. As you scan the sky you notice the sky light up with what seems to be lightning...maybe my mind is playing tricks and it's just a storm approaching. You continue on slower this time with an eye on the sky. Then lightning strikes again this time directly in front of you as a dark figure passes overhead, it's a dragon, what do you do?

I'm so ready for this.

Well in the gameplay trailer, the character slashes at the dragons underside when it flew too low.

Though mostly, I suspect that if you keep your shield up and continually defend against the dragons air attacks he'll eventually get frustrated and land.

Or perhaps as your running along the forest on a bright moon-lit night, a shadow flies by in a blur. As you're looking up, the view in front of you lights up with dragon's breath.

Ah cool, forgot about the close pass over and your chance to give him a good slash. If you don't use a shield and either dual-wield or two-handed...time to pray to the athletic gods or chug that chameleon potion you have been holding onto.

Run through a forest, gasping for air, then, run towards a cliff, only to stop just before the edge. I slowly turn around, pull out my sword, and begin combat. The Dragon blasts fire at me, but I barely survive. Now scorched, and freezing cold at the same time, I scream a Dragon Shout, sending the Dragon Flying, then I do true battle, and as the Dragon comes to strafe me, I plunge my sword into its belly.

Hey I watched that. Still watching SyFy channel too. Huzzah draconic overload~

Assuming it'd be my first sighting of a dragon in the game, probably squeal and whimper while mentally trying to compare it to the appearance of the dragons in Dragon Age. And proceed to flee like a pansy [or brave, brave Sir Robin for fellow Monty Python fans], hide somewhere and watch it briefly. Then I'd grow a pair of ovaries and get all crazy with my shield and sword. I always make a female warrior since I only seem to be able to hack and slash. Cannot use magic for the life of me or sneak. > >;

While I hear the dragon's roar in the cold winter night I reach into my huge adventuring bag and grab my lean wooden bow. The dragon prepares for a diving maneuver, I pull my bowstring to max strength. I aim slightly above its head and fire with pin-point velocity. The arrow strikes true in between its slanted eyes. It proceeds to spiral dive from the shot. As it nears me I pull out my enchanted longsword and shout a few dragon words that slow down time. As the time slows down I proceed to stab the dragon square in the chest. I heave my sword out and slash the dragon's head repeatably as time speeds up. The dragon recovers and I start sprinting away from it as it breaths fire down my back. The dragon starts charging at me at full speed, I move to a small ridge on the side of the road. I stand on top of the ridge and prepare for the nessesary. As the dragon stands on its hind legs and prepares to slash me with its front claws I stab its heart. The dragon stands for a second as blood seeps down its stomach, it turns it head slowly at me and breathes his last breath. He twirls then falls into the dark grim road. Do I celebrate or dread the killing of such a beast?
