Fallout 3 on Lenovo T420?

Post » Mon Aug 01, 2011 3:47 pm

I have tried everything to get this game to work on my computer, the specs of which are:

-Intel i5 2520M (2.5+ GHz)
-Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
-Intel HD 3000 graphics

I have even tried to use the "dll trick" to make the game think I'm using a dedicated card, but to no avail. Even with the integrated card, I am able to get settings for the game, but once I actually launch it after installing (latest version of the game and latest version of Windows Live), I get an interminable black screen.

Any help/suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Actually, it is. The settings scan my system and tell me to run Medium graphic settings. Also, I have seen people working the game with a GMA chip. I do think it's a driver issue with Intel however.

Medium is the default setting level. Anyone running the game on an Intel chip is doing so with a hacked driver dll which is dangerous. Forcing the game to run on inadequate hardware can cause heating problems, system problems, and other driver failure.

Its an "At your own risk" endevour which few will help with.

The game has run on my 128 MB VRAM computer before (at default low settings), albeit slowly, and caused no problems to it. And, as the HD 3000 has the same capacity for gaming as low-level dedicated cards (certainly the 256 MB minimum requirement), I see no reason why others would not want to help me out, most of all if there is a way to run it without having to use the dll.

So it has the capability, but still. Its sapping memory from the system, its integrated, it just doesn't have the power to even play Fallout 3 comfortably at much more then maybe 15FPS. Its a work station class GPU in a laptop, meaning piss poor cooling. You WILL run the risk of actually melting the plastic of your laptop.

I know that Vista and Windows 7 don't likeOblivion, so this may be the same here. The trick is when you install it, you put it in a new folder outside My Games. Put it in documents and it will work if this is the prob.
