Sigh, gonna need some opinions on this one.

Ok So I am extremely bored with all of my games.

I want to play Fallout 3 really bad but as soon as I pop the game in, after maybe 15 or so minutes of playing, I get bored. With the whole landscape, colors of the environment, and mechanics.

I have a PC and I have tried modding the game to death to suit my "needs". Tried the Fallout Re Animated mod, but I hate how when everyone is in relax mode they are all up tight, clenched fists and chests forward, it svcks. The ironsights mod but I read over alot of comments and people are having problems with it.

And of course a good chunk of modders have moved on to New Vegas, so no good mods are being made. No settlement mods ect.

So I am asking what do you guys do to keep interested in this game.

Tips, playthroughs, mods, I am all ears. :foodndrink:

How many times have you played through?

I've played three characters, only one of which I'd really maxed out a lot of content (DLC and otherwise). I still haven't found every door, unlocked every box, hacked every computer, or even used every major weapon spec. I guess it depends on what you're into. I'm the type to really like to clear out -everything- so I check every box, every crate, every locker...

Personally, I found it really hard to establish and keep a character with neutral karma. I was caught between finishing quests (which will either award you positive or negative karma) for cash and perks, and keeping my karma on a "manageable" level.

Just for kicks, have you tried the Zombie Apocalypse mod. Its good for some survival-horror fun when you get bored with just the main game.

Too many times to count. I played Fallout 3 when it first came out for on my xbox, got a PC and bought the GOTY edition for it 6 months ago. Played easily over 1000 hours on both systems, every DLC multiple times, every nook and cranny I can think of, every side quest, everything. Fallout 3 is my favorite game of all time.

As for the karma thing, I just base things off of what I would actually do in the situation. Good-Neutral karma is my style, I tried Bad karma a few times but I can't get into it.

I have used it. It was fun, but not something I like to repeat. Unless on a play through, my roleplaying goes out of control and some how a Zombie Apocalypse arises from the prewar dead.

Have you played The Eagle Has Landed yet? Go be Enclave. Make us proud :)

I have looked into it. Saw the thread in the Mods section a few weeks back. It looks really good I must admit, but I am solely not an Enclave kind of guy, though I do respect them as a faction. Though I could never play the Originals, aside form Tactics, since every time I left I got owned by plants.

I will have to try it on a separate play through, as an Enclave enthusiast. Defiantly after my current.

I have started a new character, a scavenger/trader of some sort. Best intentions and all, not too good but enough to make the "right decision". I carry a hunting rifle and combat knife. I use the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10228 mod, with the Wanderer Headgear, Traveler Pack, and Survivor Outfit.

With the pack I carry dirty water, maybe 2 or 3 bottles, 150 caps(max), and maybe 50 .32 ammo. A campfire mod and bedroll. I do not use Fast Travel, and the only times I every use fast travel is between major settlements, Ex: Megaton-Rivet City.

Any ideas to improve on this would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe for an extra challenge/fun for you scavenger character, try using only or mostly crafted weapons :)

I did a similar character a while back, definitely a little different gameplay using mostly crafted weapons. I also used a couple of mods that added a few more craftable weapons to the game just to expand the arsenal.

I like this idea, however there are only a select few I find interesting, Bottle cap Mine, Railway Rifle, and Shishkebab. Not really a fan of the crafted melee weapons or the nuka grenade. The only melee weapon I plan to use is a combat knife or maybe even the unique Occam's Razor or Stabhappy.

If there is a mod out there for crafted weapons or any use of the workbench please do kindly point my way.

its a barren wasteland. did you expect beautiful scenery ?
i love the way you can play the game...... be very evil or the ultimate good guy. i'm trying to get all the perks and be nearly invincible and gather every piece of armor and every weapon.
more to explore than games like mass effect, farcry, bioshock, and gears of war.

I used the following mods to add more crafted weapons...

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=782 If using FWE look in the comments section. First post should have a link to a FWE-only version.
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7218 No patch for FWE if using it. Can up the damage a little easily with FO3Edit however to bring the Cryolator up to FWE levels.
http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4455 Don't need this whatsoever if using FWE as it's included. Need resources from the original http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3907 if not using FWE.

I'm pretty sure there are mods out there that extend crafting, why not try out one of those?

Also, have you tried the mods that make weapons have realistic damage and increase spawned enemies? (My friend only plays like that on his computer, it's crazy! He gets killed on trips more often then not)

That's not what I meant. I meant that I have played the game so much that it has become to be an eye soar in some occasions.

I do not use FWE, though I know about it, never appealed to me. I'll check out those links thanks!

I haven't tried the realistic damage mods, but I do use Marts Mutant Mod, and have increased spawns on those, especially with ghouls, and with ghouls I have a 75% chance that they raise back up and I have to de-attach a limb for them to stay dead. Pretty cool stuff.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11418 is excellent for a No Fast Travel scavenger, imo.

Things to help with scavving and crafting aspects:

Wow, I didn't even know these existed. Thanks a ton as well. :foodndrink: Still reading over them but I will defiantly use these.

Edit: Wow these look great! With the workbench addons, and these, I am set. I don't think role playing has ever been so fun :P I can't believe I missed these. Thanks everyone!

As much as I appreciate endorsemants from a friend  , I should note that the mod must be taken as what it is - an early Beta of a campaign overhaul :D Not that it doesn't work though, for most of the game. My second-in-charge Kyntak did a lot of great job in fixing all bugs we could find.

It's really late an I'm soooo sleepy but I have to help you out, I really recommend FO3 Wanderers Edition link here -----> http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2761

I haven't used FOOK but it sounds like another good mod.

another couple cool changes to the wasteland mods http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15699

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15700 This is how they should of looked in the vanilla game

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15645

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5573

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1418

I would suggest FWE over FOOK.

Also, CASM is good for saving since I for one always forget to save before important stuff, then I die and have to reload from ancient history.

I had most of those, but I did enjoy the high res lockpick texture, thanks for that one! :foodndrink:

Not a fan of total game overhauls. since some won't allow some mods, I kind of make it my own if you know what I mean.

I have used CASM, didn't really appeal to me and some ahve had bad luck with it, I got this instead: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16434 It's pretty handy, I like it. But thanks for the info on FWE over FOOK, if I ever decide to go in that direction I will remember what you have said.

Well, I use 50+ other mods alongside FWE, and have minimal problems. But anyhow, taste is sacred and I won't dwell further on it.

Hey, I was the first person to download it at Nexus and I only had two minor issues, one of which gave me a huge laugh and I can always use more of those. Your Beta beats most finished versions :)

Thank you. It's very nice to hear that :)
*sigh* now that I got Enclave Improvement Project working properly I think I should start working on TEHL again.

Return to Fallout 3
