Oblivion crashing at 2gig Memory usage, every time.

Post » Mon Aug 01, 2011 10:09 pm

So, I have been getting consistent crashing when my Oblivion goes over 2gig memory usage. I read about an LAA Patch, and I applied it (as administrator to avoid problems) It said it worked, but Oblivion still crashes almost at exactly 2gig mem usage.

Is there some other settings I have to mess with? Maybe someone can send me their patched .exe just to make sure?

To clarify, it WAS crashing at 1.7 gigs, then I applied the patch, and now it crashes at 2gigs.

I am an a 64 bit version of Windows 7, with 8 gigs of ram.

Well.... they are describing similar issues, and I believe the issue is the memory usage, I'm just not 100% sure the LAA patch is indeed working, and I'm not sure it's because my exe is modified (I'ts possible it is, but I'm not 100% sure on that either.)

What I wouldn't mind trying is, if someone would be willing to send me their Oblivion.exe. That will help me test out exactly what is going on. I don't have my default EXE backed up.

Check in your OB directory for "Oblivion.exe.Backup". AFAIK the 4gb_patch.exe creates this... it doesn't use the ob.exe icon so you may have overlooked it.

Thing is, I'm pretty sure if my OB.exe was modified, it was modified BEFORE the LAA patch, so the backup is tainted.

No one will send me their exe? Zombiemold@Gmail.com

I believe that doing so would be illegal.

I think, given the circumstances, it shouldn't be a problem, it's not like anyone can do anything with it without the actual installation and/or disc right?

Yeah, but it's still illegal. Even if any of us were willing to do it, we're sure as hell not going to do it on the official forums. So you're either going to need to re-install or go elsewhere.

Have you tried re-patching it? The only thing I can think of is that it didn't patch right to begin with. Also, what could have altered your original oblivion.exe without you knowing?

I have re-patched it many times. The only thing I can think of was this launcher that gave Oblivion Fake Full screen. An older version of it replaced my exe, if I remember correctly.

Surely you have it on the original disk? I have two, maybe three, copies on the original disks. Just install it to a different location/PC and copy the file across.

Or get it off your back-ups.

I do have the original disc, however, the exe isn't just sitting on the disc, and it won't allow me to install because it's already installed. Re-installing would be tediously difficult, which is why I'm not doing that unless I have exhausted all my options.

Have a look at the Autpatcher on the OBSE website, it will help you extract the original exe off of your disc.
