As the subtitle says, the only games I've ever played on PC are RTS games (Age of Kings: The Conquerors and Age of Mythology: The Titans, if you're interested), but I really want to get Oblivion and Skyrim on PC for the mods and that I would really like to make mods. So my question is: how hard was it to adapt to keyboard/mouse controls for an action game, especially those of you who had no experience? Because it seems difficult to think about, let alone play.

Trust me, it is really not hard at all. I for one have always preferred mouse and keyboard over a handcontrol when it comes to action oriented games, or games at all. One advantage is that you get a much better precision with m/k

It's not hard at all. Most importantly I think Oblivion is best played with mouse and keyboard, what with the shortcuts and all. The number of actions you can (or need to do) is pretty limited, so your hand won't go across the keyboard

You can probably get used to it in a half an hour. The mouse steering is quite simple, and the left hand's normal mode (for me at least) is almost as intuitive. The only thing that might be awkward at first is holding down the Shift key with the little finger to run.

I think you'll find that control is more precise with the keyboard.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to plug in a console controller to the computer? If you're used to that it might be best to do it that way whilst you integrate yourself with the keyboard/mouse. When I played on PC my fingers always used to hurt after a while because I found the keyboard too awkward to use.

It's too late now anyway. I still have Oblivion for the PC, but I bet it wouldn't work anymore. It's really old and I didn't want mods anyway. I only liked the PC version because I could cheat using the console :whistling:

I arrange mine to put all the keys I use on the left side of the keyboard, where my left hand normally sits. That leaves my right on the mouse, and my left to do the WASD movement, spellcasting, sneaking, and whatever else. I find it very comfortable.

I simply cannot do it, I play all my games on a PS3 controller. Keyboard is supposed to be better but I play Mount and Blade Warband online and I don't seem to be at a disadvantage. After 16 years of using a controller I just cannot get used to the keyboard and believe me I have spent hours trying.

Mine is similar, except that I use a mouse with thumb-buttons on the side. One of those buttons is set to "Cast," and the other is set to "Draw/Sheath Weapon." That puts all the combat functions on my right hand, and all the foot-movement functions on my left. So I can block, cast, and side-step at the same time, or whatever.

bought a week and i could play it better than on my xbox. Changed cast to F, just cause its easier to reach
