pls explain the BOS

Post » Thu Aug 04, 2011 7:04 am

Hi,

I never played fallout 1 or 2 but i have done a bit of back story reading on fallout wiki but i still don't get the BOS, can you explain them to me, why they do what they do, their longterm gaol/s etc.

Bos, they collect and research pre war tech to the point of obsession, have a deep hatred for the enclave (that part is easy to understand), treat wastelanders as scum, like dogs and have a high and mighty knightliness about them. i just don't get them??? It dose seem that Lyons dose want to help the people of the wastes but what are they doing about it?

In FO3 its only after the wonderers father dies and so he escapes with dr li and her team that the BOS finaly opens their doors to you and and actualy dose something for the good of all the people in the waste but it seem prior to that all they did was fight enclave, fight mutants, find and research pre war tech and ........ it seemed like they never really did anything to help the people before that.

In FONV the brotherhood are even worse, hiding deep underground twiddling their thumbs and doing nothing.

I did read about the brotherhood once storming an enclave oil rig and saving a bunch of voult dwellers that were captured but i havnt read any other good deeds they have done.

im not dissing them i just want to understand them more and i havnt played the first 2 games i was hopeing some of you could fill me in.

Cheers-

Fallout 3's BoS or Capital Wasteland BoS have branched off from the original BoS, or respectfully FNV's BoS.

The BoS in FNV are dying out and only care about technology, where as Fallout 3's have "lost their mind" and decided to collect tech and save the wasteland. The Outcasts, are loyal to the original BoS's ideals and hate the CW BoS.

Basically:

Fallout 3: Capital Wasteland BoS - Those commanded by Elder Lyons and are the "White Knights". There are also the Outcasts who branched off of Lyon's BoS and are loyal to the F:NV BoS (Original) ideals. What they do to help the people of the wasteland are, protect them from the Enclave and Super Mutants, Raiders, Talon Company, protect caravans and manage Purified Water with an alliance with Rivet City's security force, as of Broken Steel.

Fallout: New Vegas: Original BoS - Original BoS, formally commanded by Elder McNamara. They are almost dead, and do not care about wasteland or it's beings. They send some members outside to collect technology and scout.

Outside those games...

There are The Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel. They are seen in Fallout: Tactics. They were sent on zeppelins out east, but due to a lightning storm, they crashed near Chicago. Those who survived, lost contact with the Original BoS.

They established bases outside/inside Chicago. They recruited wastelanders in exchange for food/supplies and what have you. Only Paladins get to wear the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Power_armor_%28Fallout_Tactics%29. Recruits are assigned "regular" clothing. Also the switched around their http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/thumb/c/c5/FOT_MWBoS_Logo.png/200px-FOT_MWBoS_Logo.png. It is just the sword and gears in reverse.

Eventually they branched off from the original BoS like Lyons, but in a less stupid way (<--- OPINION ALERT!!!).

You can read more on the game http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Tactics:_Brotherhood_of_Steel at the vault wiki and sort of branch off with their links to armor weapons, factions and such.

As for the BoS in Fallout 1 or 2, I probably shouldn't explain because I might get things wrong/mixed up, since the farthest I got in both games was to a group of plants, which unfortunately kicked my ass. Not saying I don't know the events, just haven't played the games, Fallout 1 and 2, enough to judge them accurately.

Then this game was made: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout:_Brotherhood_of_Steel

BUT do not familiar your self with it because it is a load of BULL [censored], not cannon, and BULL [censored]. Basically do not read up on it, play it, what have you. Do not judge the BoS based off that game.

Edit:

Long Term Goals (Respectfully):

Fallout 1 and 2: Technology Hoarding/Collecting.

Fallout: Tactics: Control, based off of the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2ZcpcO7C58, which I sincerely hope is cannon. Fallout: Tactics hasn't really been announced cannon from what i have heard but Barnaky is the ending I hope will be.

Fallout 3, Lyon's BoS: Protect the Capital Wasteland and clear all Super Mutants.
Outcasts: Collect Technology, screw the wasteland.

Fallout: New Vegas: Collect Technology.

That basically summed up everything I was going to say lol, but basically the BoS from Fallout 1-2 are the same as the outcasts from Fo3 and the Mojave Chapter BoS.

Never happened. The Brotherhood essentially cowered during Fallout 2 and avoided engaging the Enclave. The Chosen One was the one to sneak aboard the Oil Rig and activate its self destruct sequence.

Thanks for the replys, the BOS is just one of ther FO3 factions i never really understood, The enclave well they want to create a pure race, wipe out the old and rebuild a new but the end dosnt justify the means imo, the raiders... Plain insane etc, most are pretty strieght forward.

So, the true BOS's purpse is to collect and study pre war tech..... to what end? what is hoarding a tonn of the stuff going to achieve? and fighting off super mutants and enclave again i dont see the point in their strategy. They dont have the numbers to succesfully destroy either, in fo3 ive heard a couple of times people mentioning that the SM are looking for something wich is why they are so densly populated in and around the DC earia, maybe they should try to find out what that is instead of sending out squads to die.

Before Lyons chaptor of the Brotherhood did any other chapter of BOH ever help the people of the wasteland?

Cheers and thanks for the info-

I'll shed some light here seeing as I know more about the BoS than any other faction. The BoS's goal is to collect tech and stash it away to protect mankind from itself. They also study and try to develop new tech. Their goal was never to destroy the Enclave or fight Muties.

The BoS back west traded and developed tech, sometimes trading it as well. It wasn't their priority to help anyone. In the Midwest ( Tactics ) they helped by protecting towns in exchange for supplies and recruits.

I'll speak more in response to your original question.

They're not obsessed with tech, they don't necessarily hate the Enclave, I don't know how people get that idea they don't treat wastelanders like that. They don't think they're God's gift to humanity, they don't think they're knights.
