Legitimate speed runs? (Spoilers)

Something I posted over at UESP and thought I'd copy over here is: Anyone ever tried to see how fast they can end the Oblivion crisis (finish the main quest)? This is an in-character speedrun challenge more than a player speedrun, so it's compared in how many game days it took, and it needs to be a legitimate clear. No mods used (Official mods and unofficial patches are ok, as they should not fundamentally change the main quest), and no glitches used either. I'm well aware of the paintbrush glitch to reach the final battle within 5 minutes, but I'm looking for skill and planning, not glitch exploitation. There's also two optional objectives: Completing the Siege of Kvatch, and ensuring Jeelius survives. I won't ask that everyone do these, but mention if you do decide to, as they add a bit of time, but make for a more "complete" clear of the main quest.

As for my own attempt of this, I used a male khajiit thief born under the sign of the thief. I used my majors often to ensure I'd level up a couple times (getting Umbra at level 1 would take too much time), and I did complete the Siege of Kvatch (and the cuirass lasted me the rest of the playthrough, fitting for the Hero of Kvatch) and saved Jeelius. I finished it on Heartfire 1, 10:39 AM. The file says 6 days, but since it says 1 day has passed when you start the game, the oblivion crisis only lasted 5 days, 9 hours and 39 minutes. I know there's a number of things I could have done to go faster (In particular, I had to waste a lot of time waiting for the map to the dagon shrine to show up, and could have stolen a black horse at the start), but it's still an impressive display having the disaster last less than a week. So, anyone else want to give it a try?

I've never thought about a speed run through Oblivion. Reason being, it goes against everything I view the game to be. People in the Dragonage Forums are all about speed runs and I just don't get it. That kind of stuff destroys the immersion, I play for. I guess I'm just getting old.

I can't see this being supported by frequent members of this forum.

No thanks. Not my goblet of Tamikas. I'm glad that it sounds like you enjoyed it though! :foodndrink:
