[REQ] What needs to be retextured

Post » Fri Aug 05, 2011 1:01 am

I'm feeling the need to mod lately and now that I actually have some free time away from dear old Uncle Sam, I can use my pc again. Im looking for feedback from you on what you think or believe needs to be reworked in oblivion that hasn't already. So please give me ideas and I can see what can be done.

P.S - Please do not request my original landscape textures. kthxbai

First of all, welcome back...if you've actually been away, ha-ha...

I think there is only one retexture for Planes of Oblivion, so that would be nice to see. I wish there were a higher rez alternative to Improved Doors & Flora as well... The most annoying visual aspect of my game right now though is definitely the bad tiling on mountainsides and Masser...

There's no much left to be done, but the oblivion planes definitely need a serious improvement, imo.

I have always personally felt that the default clothing textures, in both Vanilla and SI are a bit lacking, and don't have any real good texture replacers. Also, you know what is in desperate need of retexturing, is some of the wooden Luminar staffs from OOO, they are horrendous, and clash badly with the new textures for torches.

Yup, that and most of the MMM's creatures. An higher res alternative for MMM would be very welcomed.

Have you looked at these:

Armor and Clothing Redone - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27414 <-- I think I prefer this set
Paul's Clothing Retextures - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=33322
Cali's Female Finery - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26850

I'd like to see Shrouded Armor retextured though.

Edit: more subtle...

Mike's Clothes Replacer - http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7487

Also, the link to the one Planes of Oblivion retexture - http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27887

Edit: Mythic animals, mythic creatures and a couple others by the same author are good high rez creature textures replacers

There are three for staffs (excluding Hromir's Ice Staff I think), and InsanitySorrow has retextured a few as well.

Edit: Actually, Visually Improved Staffs covers the ice staff - http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38438

I'm not using that, only using Hi Res Staffs - http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29412 ...along with InsanitySorrow's Improved Armory mods

In that case, given that - based on what I have seen - you have a way with spectacular screenshots primarily featuring landscapes, architecture, sky and flora (and given your history retexturing at least some of those things, plus this and that)... how about new or updated landscape textures, hi-res flora, architecture and "key clutter" done your way, and maybe some skies too?

Sorry if that sounds presumptuous or greedy. I sincerely do not expect anything of you. What I do know is that, when you turn your hand to texturing (and taking screenshots!) beautiful things will happen. It would be grand to see more of your work.

Cloud Ruler Temple would be awesome. Something of Qarl's quality.

I am using your cave retexture as it is the best available. I remember a discussion some time back about the other texture you have done but have been pulled. Is there a place to get those?

As for doing anything new I would like to see your take on dungeons (Quarls is nice as is vibrant but if you would match what you have done with caves it would be in a league of its own).

..and thanks for your service :) .

There is no texture replacer for Fort Ruins, except Qarl's. Would be nice to see it.

+1 for this. Was trying to think of something earlier that hasn't been done yet by anyone and this would be perfect.

Hmm, I was going to suggest retextures of the Mithril and Orcish weapons in WEPON - especially the Orcish ones - but I'd have to say I agree wtih Cloud Ruler Temple too.

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39717. Don't know if you'd like it, but might as well look at it.

As far as things to retexture goes, I'm going to have to also suggest the plains of Oblivion. The retexture that's out right now is good, but it just doesn't stand up well with the other textures I'm using. Of course, anything you decide to do will probably come out amazing, so I'm not too picky.

I missed your original texture pack except for the Cavern Retexture that is still available.

Ivy. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39668 is awesome but doesn't do anything about vanilla ivy and I have not seen any replacer for it as good as that one.

Some colors in caves. I do love your textures but I've seen gorgeous mineral and crystal deposits in cave pictures and it would be really awesome to see something like that in the game.

Corpses.
Chains and shackles. Bars have been done.

Art Supplies. Don't think anyone has done those.
Tent.
Farm stuff. Graqe vat, hay bale, barrels and cottage roofs have been done. I don't think anything else has been. Farm tools, etc.

Food replacer that is as good as this.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17869
Yes, there is a nice food replacer, and it's much better than vanilla in most ways but the apples end up all one color and the pumpkins almost all one color, while vanilla versions are http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10487.

Window glass with bubbles. Much/most ancient glass did have bubbles, and the bubbles were often prized. They did know how to eliminate the bubbles for the most part back in Roman times but because bubbles add texture and light/color variation they continued to be intentionally included in stained glass and vases to this day. Also in medieval times cheaper glass often had lots of bubbles and flaws due to impurities and other problems.

If you want to have some fun you could make Painted World even better. I don't think anyone has touched that. It's probably my favorite place in the entire game. I've actually seen a couple of people request a texture replacer for the whole game that looks like it.

I'll add my vote for this. I'm tired of jumping through a gate and feeling like I'm back playing Doom again. :obliviongate:

Being a huge fan of OBGE I can't help but wish for someone to make steep parallax maps since it has been enabled in the latest obge (3.0), the ones that come with QTP3/Vanilla are overblown on rocks, and really really minimal (and mostly non-existent) on everything else. Most of the people making OBGE are mind blowing at code, but making textures is another deal. So that is just stagnating at the moment.

I would imagine if you where someone into making textures, doing something like that would be a challenge, and exciting, since it would be a major step forward on the entire graphical nature of the oblivion engine, rather than just another (fantastic) texture pack on nexus/etc.

That said, there would be permission issues if they where adding to existing mod textures (such as qtp3). I don't know, maybe it's just me, but having seen parallax mods on crysis, the dx11 texture pack on crysis 2, stalker useage of the tech, it's pretty much the first thing I would jump into doing once I got past the fundamentals of texture crafting. It suits open world rpgs. And it's the only other thing besides tessellation that would be a huge step up.

What about finishing http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38251? The author didn't have the time to retexture "flesh atronach" and " knight of order" :)..also I agree with the others,we need a Oblivion Planes High res retexture

They also didn't have a chance to retexture the Amber weapons.

Wouldn't that allow for actual waves, IIRC? That would be killer. (*imagines*... the "Surfing in Oblivion Mod".... *sigh*)

Actual waves would require something like tessellation as far as I know.

Customized normals that take advantage of OBGE's parallax occlusion mapping are in the works, however.

Anyway I've always wanted to see hi-res textures for the Oblivion realms the most probably, followed by the arena.

Welcome back, AmpolX. I remember you so well for searching awhile some of your textures, since your wood retexture was very impressive, and the god statues, and imperial statues.

Ok. my list of retexture needs.

1. ALL statues!! they are horrible, ugly, and [censored] as for now.
2. the silver mace .... loool.......http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/31/oblivion201107260236285.jpg/ was my attempt to improve it, but it would be nothing compared to your efforts.
3. Iron Armour - i used all replacers i could find, but ....... there is a new http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39764 on tesnexus, and it is amazing
4. Deadric blades......though improved armoury seems to have great normal maps, they look very pixelated in 1st person.
5. the black, green whatever iron armour stuff, I think its artifacts. poorest normal map art, and very pixelated. a lot of hgec stuff has poor quality just above the briast section, too stretched.

...you asked. We :celebration:
