Most Useful And Most Useless Perks.........

Post » Fri Aug 05, 2011 4:03 pm

Most useful: Jury Rigging, Shotgun Surgeon, And Stay Back, Monocite Breeder, Solar Powered. These are the only perks I need, everything else is a bonus.

Most useless: Here And Now, Hand Loader, Vigilant Recycler, Educated. I've never crafted my own ammo because I find looking for ingredients (Survival included) tedious.

*GASP*, Hand Loader and Vigilant Recycler..useless? *megagasp*

Only in my opinion. I've just never felt the need to take them.

No kidding.

Most useless:

Here and Now
Swift Learner
Infiltrator
Computer Whiz
Lead Belly
Friend of the Night (only because the effect isn't as good as Cateye, otherwise it'd be more useful)

Most useful:

Hard to say, since it depends on the build. An Explosives user, for example, doesn't have much use for Better Criticals since they can't get crits, but an Energy Weapons user would be insane to skip it. Hand Loader or Vigilant Recycler are often cited as essential for Guns or EW users, respectively, and I certainly would never skip them, but you don't actually need them to do well with such characters.

My personal 'must-have' perks are Pack Rat, Heavyweight, and Long Haul, but then I'm a hopeless loot-fiend and would take the cabinets too if I could, so I'm almost always over-encumbered when I leave an interior. I did skip Long Haul on my Dead-is-Dead character, but he's a special case and was limited by his RP and survival needs.

Which brings up another point: some perks that are essential for a given RP are worthless for another, especially in cases where the RP limits weapon usage. For example: my D-i-D character is an Infantryman, and as such the Grunt perk was mandatory, while Shotgun Surgeon, which I normally take on all Guns users, was worthless because that character only uses weapons covered by the Grunt perk.

Useful: Comprehension (early on), Jury Rigging, Living Anatomy. Shotgun Surgeon + And Stay Back = :tops:

Useless: Here and Now, Nuka Chemist.

the award for most useless perk has to be junk rounds.

I think I will have to agree there. I was stupid to take that perk once. It's a hassle to get the ingredients, the round are not special at all, and you don't even get that much ammo to carry-weight ratio.

Most useful perk.....hmm.....I'de have to say Better Criticals.....it was also the best perk in Fallout 3. Playing on very hard makes getting critical hits all the more exciting.

Most useless: Vigilant Recycler

Have you ever used a Gatling Laser exclusively for like (game days) at a time with vigilant recycler?

I'm guessing you haven't. Stock up on a bunch of ammo, do that, and then tell me vigilant recycler is useless....
