Theif Skill Set

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2011 1:09 am

So in light of the new ign preview, in which pickpocketing is kinda sorta described as a skill, but maybe not. Which would you prefer?

I was gonna add a third option of a "new skill" being added while BOTH are merged, but figured it would throw off the poll balance as everyone (including myself) would vote for it.

Feel free to post any new skill ideas you would prefer to have.

edit: appears i still can't spell "thief". Im slightly educated i swear!

Sneak and pickpocketing should be merged together. When someone is trying to pickpocket someone they are sneaking behind them...herp derp

Both choices would be silly if they weren't combined.

That is, unless they make pickpocketing without sneaking a perk (which is presumably the kind of thing they'd do, if it were a separate skill?).

I agree with this mostly, but you could make the argument that pick pocketing is a completely separate action and therefore deserves its own skill. The only problem I have with that is that seems like its too specialized to be a skill, and I would expect pickpocket bonuses to come from perks not leveling by the way Skyrim is directing itself.

I have my doubts that pickpocketing is a separate skill, but if it is you should be able to pickpocket people by bumping into them.

Just ask Ezio.
Anyway yeah Pickpocketing shouldn't be a seperate skill. Also, Merchantile and Speechcraft should be merged. But there should be perks that let you pick...actually you know what? I think I posted about this somewhere else a couple months ago. There should be an interactive satchel somewhere on the NPCs body and you can only pick it while sneaking but then you get a perk and you can pick while standing, then maybe another perk that lets you pick pockets in crowded areas, etc.

pick pocketing is not sneeking you can do so by bumping into someone and lifting things with them totaly knowing youre there .Trying to convince someone to give you a better price is the same thing as getting information from someone it is convinceing them to do someting they dont want to by being charming or convincing.Ever seen a street preformer lift a watch or wallet while talking right at the person .I had a guy i know get pick pocketed by a prosttute while being serviced she wasnt sneeking behind him lol.But if you want to talk someone down on a price speechcraft makes perfect sense.

Yeah, I for one would prefer it if they were both merged, but had separate perk trees to accommodate both aspects of the skills.

But with athletics and acrobatics gone I must say that I really don't feel creative enough to take a shot at what said new skill would be. Something in the thief archetype, no based on running speed or jumping or even hand to hand fighting. What then? Dodging? Agility in general?

Hopefully some reviewer will let it slip tomorrow

I before E, except after C, or when sounded as a, as neighbor and weigh.

Believe me, I know. It's just, that's like the only rule I took away from learning it and it's my native tounge. I felt like passing up such a chance to inflate what little ego I have would be a waste. :whistling:
