Radeon Problems

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2011 5:40 am

I have a desktop with an Nvidia graphics card that plays FO3 fine, I won't post the specs, as it's unnecessary. I just got a laptop (specs at the end), with a Radeon graphics card, and now after about 10 minutes, (it used to be under one minute) it either freezes or CTD's. I'm extremely annoyed and have tried like everything to fix, and countless hours of mod removal and it still crashes when Vanilla BTW. Anyways onto the specs:

Intel Core i7 2620M @ 2.70GHz
6 gigs of ram
Radeon ™ HD 6770M Graphics card.

It should be able to play, but I saw that FO3 doesn't have support for my card. Is there any way to play FO3 on my laptop? I.E. patches, drivers?

Its most likely not your GPU, it should be fine to run the game. You have a CPU with more then 2 threads, have you tried the quadcore fix?

Open up the .ini file located in My Documents>My Games>Fallout 3. *Do not alter the one in the actual game directory labeled Fallout_Default_ini*
In the FALLOUT.ini find the line

bUseThreadedAI=0
change the 0 to a 1

then below it add the line

iNumHWThreads=2

It says "cannot find bUseThreadedAI=0"

Just search for bUseThreadedAI it may work better that way. Its there, in the Fallout.ini.

Nevermind I found it. Odd, it wasn't in documents, it was in the fallout3 folder. In C:/BethesdaSoftworks/Fallout3
