Mod Compatibility with Steam Version of Game?

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2011 12:36 pm

I already have the disks for Morrowind, but today there is a great special on at Steam - where if you pre-order Skyrim, you get both Oblivion (game of the year edition deluxe) and Morrowind (game of the year edition) for only $9.99

I like having games on steam versus disks, so I am debating whether to buy this special then sell my disks - but I don't want to do this if there will be compatibility problems with existing mods for Oblivion and Morrwind.
Can anyone offer any insights here?

Are Steam versions of Morrowind compatible with existing mods?

Thanks!

There are workarounds to use just about any mod. The only thing you can't do AFAIK is use the Construction Set.

Right at the top of the tutorials and useful links thread. I have no experience with this, but there it is.

I thought you got them for free. it says, does it not, that if you preorder skyrim you get the package an additional 33% off and since its already 67% off that would make it 100% off, aka free.

Hmm. Well, from what I can gather it's not just you. That's unfortunate. I wouldn't buy the Steam version of Morrowind if you can't use the CS. I know digital distribution is the future, but for some things I think I prefer to have tangible media. Morrowind is one such thing.

@OP: If you don't have Oblivion then it might be a good deal for you. Otherwise, I see no reason to get the Steam versions.

Edit: Well, if they are free then why not? I just checked the Steam page, and it appears to be like that. Stupid way to say it though.

If you have a CD copy of MW with Bloodmoon, you can copy the CS from your old folder to the new Steam folder. I had no problem doing this. It must be GOTY or bloodmoon level, however. I am very pleased with my Steam copy. Make sure you get the latest CodePatch and it will redate the BSA's so you can run MGE and other mods.

was just on the steam forums and apparantly someone preordered skyrim and the 67% went to 78% making it 33% off the $15 making it $10.

ignore what i said, it may or may not be free they are being conflicatory. real word or not, they are. under the additonal 33% off that they say, in the skyrim description it says an additional 20% off. i dont know what to believe regarding the deal. is it an additional 20% or 33% off the deal making it 87%, (or around $6) or 100%, is it 20% or 33% off the $15 making it $12 or $10. who knows they need to clear that up.

The additional 20% is off of the Quakecon Pack, further down the page.

Looks like it's not the only thing they changed. someone said they changed which version of Oblivion came with the pack already. I have even less desire to use Steam now.

if they changed it they changed it for the better. the one up right now is the one with all the DLC.

Indeed. I just hope they compensate those that bought it before.

One more thing to consider: You cannot run multiple copies of Morrowind simultaneously with the Steam version.
