Alduin's Powers

Post » Sun Aug 07, 2011 11:04 pm

Im curious as to the extent of Alduin's abilities as the world-eater with a description of a black cloud wreathed in flame sweeping across the sky.

The implication of the lore is that Alduin's powers are fire based but isnt that rather limiting for a dragon god avataar?

I keep thinking of Bahamut from FF8 - that dragon had umph with its Megaflare. Can we expect some sort of similarities with Alduin? Like a long range fire breathe attack? Or perhaps he will be able to cause an Earthquake but that may crash the game with the physics game engine's capacity to calculate excessive interactivity. Will Alduin use high level dragon shouts available to the player or have unique ones of his own. And if he has a unique dragon shout, if the player can absorb Alduin's soul then will he be able to learn it? Kind of like an MQ reward. Will he create tornadoes in his wake? Or cause mounts of lava to erupt from the ground? How will he outshine the other dragons in power?

What do you think Alduin's abilities/dragon shouts will be?

A common theme in Lord of the Rings: power does not share itself.

And why would a Dragon God fear the Dovakiin, as a Dragon God he would be so arrogant and confident in His own ability that parley or bribery would NEVER come into the equation. Even in defeat the Dragon God would not be destroyed, as some argue, so if this is so then death in physical form is just a minor set back and not worth compromise. Alduin has all the time in the world after all, I mean He is immortal.

I was thinking the same, although I was thinking of the AD&D version - I had no idea he was in Final Fantasy. I also think he will be able to use every shout in the game.

Bahamut: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahamut_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)

Tiamat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiamat_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)

Tiamat is the five-headed queen of the evil chromatic dragons. She has one head for each customary color of chromatic dragon (black, blue, green, red, white), and each head has the powers of a member of the respective race of dragonkind. Her body is a blending of various chromatic dragon forms with an appropriately multicolored hide. Her body also has traits in common with a wyvern, including a long tail tipped with a poisonous stinger.

In essence, I envision him as a 15 story Dragon Shout Thesaurus. Kind of like a medieval Grammar Nazi, but for Dragon language :D

Well, we know the common dragons have a certain degree of power concerning shouts, you can hear the Dragon in the demo saying a distorted "Yol Toor" several times.

Fascinating. So Alduin is the antithesis of Akatosh, a dual persona in a manner of speaking. And Bahamut being the Dragon God of the North Wind resonates with Alduin in a way.

The Banishment of Tiamat
Many myths claim that Tiamat lived for a long time on the Prime Material Plane, seeding it with evil dragons and dark magic. Eventually she was banished to the Nine Hells by Bahamut and a sky/sun god (perhaps Pelor or Heironeous).

This sounds suspiciously like the Alduin scenario. In terms of represenation, the description of Tiamat that you posted says she represents the different types of dragons in some way. So, should not Alduin represent the different types of dragons too. I mean the lore says the Jills, the black dragons, serve Him so if this is so and there are fire and ice aligned Jills that Alduin would not have an elemental alignment (being a god)?

maybe alduin brings all mudcrabs back to alive as liches with fire armour and frost claws and dragon shouts and turns out that dragons are really just mud crabs in disguise.. now that is what i call as a twist..

no but to be honest i hope that alduin has some unique dragonshouts and when you defeat him you can learn those too
