Skyrim the last Bethesda Games Studio game on 360/PS3

Post » Mon Aug 08, 2011 1:53 pm

The question is would Beth use their shiny new "Creation engine" for just ONE game; Skyrim? It would make more sense (finacially) to use this same engine for another game. That game is probably already in preproduction, just like Fallout 3 was during Oblivion.

I want that game to be "Fallout 4", but would that be too soon after FO:NV? We certainly don't want COD syndrome.

They will need to redo the engine again to utilize DX11 (which will be a bare minimum for next gen) as well as the AI behavior, physics, and pretty much everything because it will not be created over the minimum spec they have now.

Games aren't taxing on RAM. You're not seeing any boosts in your games from having 8 GB. One of the reasons consoles can get away with so little RAM is because all they're doing is playing games really.

And Sony released the cell in an attempt to popularize it and give it some more face time. Same ploy that they used with the Blu-Ray...just to a lesser degree.

Many games are not taxing on RAM because the market for them is PC only and doing all that work doesn't seem worth it especially for AAA devs that know they can get a game 10x smaller and make more money...

Once devs can utilize more ram the number of RAM required will go up

Not many, NO GAMES are taxing on RAM. You don't really need any more than you need to run it in 64-bit mode unless you're going to be doing some heavy editing work.

The new Xbox was supposed to launch in 2013. I would say them spending at least 2 years on their next game (Fallout 4, fingers crossed!) is very plausible. They will probably launch on the next generation.

not too late to persuade Bethesda to put FO 4 on the back burner for a few decades :D so that we can get TES 6 and 7 :P

I personally hope Fallout 4 is released on the next gen consoles. That way, they'll already have a good amount of experience working with the hardware when they make TES VI. I really don't want another Oblivion in terms of optimization.

No it's not. You won't miss anything because you have 6 gigs instead of 8.

ARMA's more taxing on your CPU than most games though.

Again, the average gamer will never need more than to run something in 64-bit.

I read an article that Todd Howard said that Skyrim was going to be the last Bethesda Game Studio game on the 360 and PS3. What are your thoughts?

EDIT: I am not saying it will be the last Bethesda Game Studios game on consoles. Just the last on this generation.

It is a good thing because they can keep their ideas/ hopes for the next game and create a new one with the capabilities of the new systems that will come out. (ie. it will be much better)

2014 roughly for Next Gen. Developers are already crying foul over the length of this console cycle. the good news is that it coincides well with whatever game Bethesda makes next and they shoulldn't have the Oblivion Fiasco all over again.
