DX9 MP stuttering after first multiplayer level? SOLUTION

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:13 am

Since Update 1.9 my multiplayer games after the first game is stuttering at very low fps (10) for some time and then slowly increase a bit but never comes back at normal fps (40-50). No matter which videoquality.
(I mean: First game I play when I just startet C2 fps is normal, second game is worse)

I tried several things to solve this, also defrag etc. did not help, Gamebooster did not help. Could nothing find at the forums. But.
I discover following. When the new multiplayergame starts and it show very low FPS (10) I switch back to desktop (Alt-Tab) and the switch back to the game: stuttering is gone and fps normal. This cost me 10 seconds.

Of coarse this is a bug which has to be solved. Since patch 1.9 many dx9 players complain about performance. (It looks like the lag which we saw at Black Ops when it came out.)

Oh yeah: My specs:
Vista 32bit 4Gb, STEAM version
Quad 6600, 2400MhZ
9800 GTX+

For me it's the opposite, if I alt-tab it tends to lag a bit more. So I don't alt tab. But if it lags, toggling full screen/window mode works too

Oh yeah toggling full screen/window works also. Even faster. Use Alt-Enter. Thanks

I have afterburner running in a separate monitor, and when I Alt-Enter the video ram usage drops by about 300mb (I only have 768). It will then steadily climb until I have to Alt-Enter again.

Well said friend this patch has been the worst, and thanks for the solution.

Expect a patch that solves this problem and the crytek not again commit such horrors.

It sound like your resolution is at a level that it chews up to much vram, combined with Crysis 2 chewing up a lot of vram. When you alt-enter it refreshes the engine and drops the vram being used back down.

I've had the same problem since patch 1.9 (on Win XP 32 bit, GPU GTS250 512MB, 1280x1024, Very High settings) - it happens only on match start, framerate is half the usual (most easily reproduced on the Lighthouse map, where sometimes there's a flickering too and even lower FPS).

I thnk BusinessEvolution is right: I checked the VRAM usage in these cases, the game uses all available VRAM. Minimizing the application with Alt+Tab then restoring it back solves the issue every time, afterwards the match is played with no problems.

I also had in mind that it must be something like that. So then they should be able to fix it. Before patch 1.9, nobody has this issue. Now it seems that a lot of people have this problem; there are several posts about this issue.

Hopefully this will be solved next patch. (when they are back from the hollydays, I think so)
