Installing to Harddrive

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 7:02 pm

I havent seen any other threads of this and its a question i have been wondering for a while.
Since this game will obviously he one disc, will installing to hdd help it alot, or a little?
I have a 360 with a 250 gb hdd and install every game and dont really notice a difference in performance but for a game like Skyrim...
Will you 360 users be installing it to your hdd? You guys think it will help?
Discuss.

Yes. I would definitely install to your HDD. I also will be playing it on 360 and will be installing it. It'll shorten the load times slightly and is easier on the console.

Always install to HDD!!!

Yeah you would be able to, pretty much all Xbox games now have to have install support. What I'm wondering is was the quakecon version installed to the hard drive? Cause if it was then I dread to think what the load times would be without it =/

I'm getting it for PC so I don't even know why I'm panicking. I'll likely buy a SDD so load times should be non-existent :D

If you have the room, yes. It'll take maybe 15 minutes or so, just read the manual to tide you over till it's done.

Only when you first put the disc in so it can read it to make sure its the right one, after that it stops wile your playing and loads from the hard drive.

Solid State Drive PC only, Xbox uses HDD which is mechanical

Overall, the game will load faster... that alone makes it worth it. The lesser noise you have is just a very big plus :P

already got my SSD for it

This.....until I get the chance to install it to a RAMdisk.

But yeah OP its usually better to install the game to the HDD. Quieter and less heat. If you have the HDD space, then their is no reason not to.

As Saladin said, "solid state drive". Translation - it's a massive memory stick. Everything's in memory chips, so the transfer rates are much faster, and there's no mechanical moving parts. Of course, it's a good bit more expensive to jam that many memory chips into a small box. :D

Can you put these things in an Xbox360?

What the hell kind of RAM do you have that you are intending to put it on a ram disk? 4 or 6 of these? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211564 What about the inevitable mods that will come out?

does it auto mainly. Which results in faster load times at least the game files you can't install the entire game (which 360 can't even do either so no biggie)

Only on games that include it as an option.... it's not a general function of the OS. (Just got done doing a Google search of my own, on this topic. :))

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231461 for 16GB. I ran a 12.5GB install of Oblivion off of it for a while, http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq102/Starforce9/12GBRamdisktransfer.jpg Of course, its not for everyday playing, just for experimental purposes only really.
