I'll do the MQ to the point where dragons can spawn, then enjoy everything else with a chance of dragon attack.

When I read your post I could only imagine a Skyrim weather reporter.

"So the weather today will be mainly clear, some drizzle in the eastern parts with a chance of dragon attack..."

"Hey Billy! What's the weather like today?" *look outside window, sees a dragon destroying the town* "Bah! Dragon again, hopefully clear up soon..."

The first thing I'll do is look for the highest place I can see in the immediate area and climb on top of it so I can get a good look at the place, then head for civilization.

I'll probably go find the guardian stones for my Mage character, and then go off and gather alchemy supplies. After that I will head to the nearest town to check it out.

I tend not too rush if I'm not rushed. I'll probably get my character in town, find her a non prison clothing and get her a job as an alchemist to begin with

You'll probably get good armor in the prison escape tutorial, just like Oblivion.

Unfortunately for me, I cannot control my curiosity, and in every game I play I do the main story instantly, without stopping to do any other quests. But once I get through the main quest, I am able to take things slow. Usually the first play through is kind of a test run, to experience the story as well as get used to the game mechanics and how everything works. Then with my second character, I am able to take things slow, know what I can and can't do, and just focus on roleplaying my character.
