Here is a neat interactive sight http://www.fas.org/programs/ssp/nukes/nuclear_weapon_effects/nuclearwpneffctcalc.html?formAction=297&contentId=367

I figure the average bomb for them would be about 50 kilotons, maybe 100 kilotons.

Then an average city almost like Cincinnati. The 50 kiloton wipes out more than half, so 2 should be good.

They probally also had some megaton bombs, but far less than what was made in real life, maybe the largest was 5 megaton. The simulator goes to 4, but 4 wipes out any city. The only cities that could take a 4 megaton bomb and be ok is LA, Chicago, probally New York, and probally Houston.

Wonder how Fallout 3 would have been if that megaton bomb had exploded, and makes you wonder if it were the only megaton bomb dropped over D.C. since so much is intact. Bummer for the chinese that it was a dud.

If the game goes by the mechanics then that bomb in Megaton was a kiloton bomb, that sounds confusing...

The explosion was really tiny.

Lore wise I figure Megaton is a bit bigger, and the springvale is a little further away. But the destruction was very minimal.

EDIT: lol, I thought you were saying the bomb in megaton was indeed one or so megatons... Anyways if it was one megaton, in game megaton, andale (whatever) fort independence, gray ditch, and maybe some of arlington would have gone boom. Bigtown might have gotten hit too.

That's what I meant. The town is called Megaton, but that bomb there was no megaton bomb with the very minimal destruction it caused. It's confusing. But imagining that it is a megaton bomb, and that the explosion was scaled down 25 times just like the map.... well, it still wouldn't suffice. Lots of places would be affected... which I would have liked, actually - some consequences in Fallout 3, hahahahahah!

That was just the name written on the bomb, Megaton, not how powerful it was.

I guess we should blame the US army for naming a kiloton nuclear bomb Megaton.
