A More Mature Game?

Skyrim definitely seems to have much more of a gritty tone like Fallout 3 did. I really hope it does.

Skyrim does look gritty, but I just hope it isn't too gritty. There should be some humor when appropriate. Not silly jokes, but it Skyrim should not be a humorless world.

Hopefully, when it comes to being mature, it doesn't mean "UH! Look how dark and gritty we are! In your face, Lord of the Rings! I crap grey morality".

Hopefully there's at least one Brothel in the game.

I agree. I can't put my finger on it... but there was something definitely darker about Morrowind than Oblivion, which is funny considering that Oblivion was mostly about Hell itself. I mean, yes, Oblivion had some very dark things... like body parts on hellish architecture, but Morrowind was somehow different and I think in a better way. Perhaps more grittier? Maybe it was the voices... I noticed that the Dunmer in Morrowind has these deep, raspy voices whereas the Dunmer in Oblivion sounded like Shakespeare.

I agree....That would be annoying but I think ppl want a mix of both good, bad, and gray.....Too much of one makes the game less immerse. Cause real life has all sorts of ppl in it.

Exactly.

We don't want something like this happening, which is my fear (though unbased at this time):

This would make the game for me. Oblivion was a BREEZE compared to Morrowind. I could enter an oblivion gate with barely any worry. I had to put the difficulty up high to get a challenge, but in Morrowind there were places you actually couldn't even go near unless you were strong enough, that's what I want.

Meh, as long as the story isn't as damn complicated as Morrowinds' I'm cool.

I think theres a lot of things that made Morrowind darker than Oblivion. The graphics engine, for one. The art direction...The voice acting in Oblivion...The music...The way you never knew if you were strong enough, and the "screw you" feeling of morrowind..

I think the main thing for me was just the game engines. From the moment those rats in the Imperial City Prison busted through the wall, and then the bricks fell in slow motion, I had a hard time taking Oblivion seriously. It all seemed a little floaty and limpy. Not real.

I think the graphical and animation(al) realism in Skyrim will be a huge step forward. The movements all seem weighty and the combat is completely brutal and intense. I think that alone will do a lot for sobering things up, which will make things more "Mature."

...Also, hopefully they'll just embrace the Mature ESRB rating. That'd help. ha.
