Families and clans in Skyrim

Post » Sat Aug 13, 2011 7:08 am

I'm digging through uesp.net a lot these days, and looking into the old games like Morrowind and Daggerfall. (I even decided to buy Morrowind when I find it :foodndrink: )

Anyway, I noticed something Daggerfall and Morrowind was very good at, and Oblivion completely lacked. The sense of a family, a house or a clan. Think about it, there are these great Houses in Morrowind, with lots and lots of members. Even NPCs who are regular nobles, even commoners, have families. When I search up a Daggerfall character in the wiki, it comes with the full description of his/her family and roots. Like http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Elysana who is the daughter of King Eadwyre, who is married to Barenziah (not Elysana's mother) who has a son called Helseth (who has a mistress called Karethys), and daughter called Morgiah.

That kind of thing was never implemented in Oblivion. Almost every lived alone, without any real relatives. Only about %10 of the population were husband-wife or mother-daughter, and that was it. And that was very lame, in my opinion. I hope that in Skyrim with the new nordic setting, big families and clans will be back, as it adds a lot to the immersion. What do you think?

Definitely. There can't be enough detail in the game for me.

Why no love for this thead? :sadvaultboy: I find family to be very important for the realism of the NPCs.

Totally agree. More detail, better immersion!

It would be cool if you could start your own clan/family and have great influence in Skyrim's politics

I actually like this idea. Would be cool to have a clan.

i've noticed that everyone's avatar is gone. I tried to replace mine in the settings menu but the avatar option is nowhere to be found.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I hope they put them back soon because that was the only way I recognized some members.
