It's hard for me to roleplay

Post » Mon Aug 15, 2011 2:25 am

I, for whatever reason, want to roleplay my character so badly. However, I can't walk slowly from my shack in Westside to the Pawn Shop, or my Novac apartment to the dinosaur. I always have to run wherever I go, and I can never stay in character for long. Help?

Does your character concept require you to walk everywhere?

No, it just adds to it.

If it's not required, than it's not exactly breaking character, is it?

It's okay. Role playing can only be done perfectly by people with mental disabilities, schizophrenia or people with multiple personality disorder. Develop one of these, and you will be role playing in no time!

I've done a playthrough where I walked.

Just read a book or do something in between the action, and granted myself the ability to run if I'm going down a hill or if I see an enemy nearby.

You don't have to walk everywhere. However, I walk more often than I run, I only run when I get bored or the situation is appropriate. But yeah, it's certainly not required to roleplay.

Well, your character could be a fitness guru,

I do that too, I can't walk around, I get so [censored] bored, so I just lie to myself and pretend she's running a marathon until I get to where I wanted to go.

There are two kinds of role play: Using game content to create your own story (like founding your own Raider gang), and pretending stuff ("my character is from Vault 13!!1!")
Roleplaying through gameplay choices shouldn't hamper your general enjoyment. Walking everywhere is tedious and wins you nothing. Carrying only two weapons? Makes much more sense. hardcoe more as is adds a whole lot RP elements to the already RP rich game.

I sneak every where most of the time. That slows down the character some. Keep a couple of Doctor bags on hand, and some dynamite. Drop some sticks at your feet to crip a leg or two. You will gimp around everywhere. Use the Doc Bag, for a quick heal, when you need to run. Drop a couple of sticks, to crip yourself back into character, when the danger is over.

usually out in the wasteland getting to point a to point b, i run or sneak. when im inside an area like the strip or freeside, i walk. just think that u gotta be there in a hurry and/or outside in wilderness is dangerous hence the need to move quickly.

My char runs everywhere. But since he is an EX-NCR type I equate it to his "training". That and if he doesn't live quickly to find his next stimpack he dies.
