Age of Empires style game?

One thing I really miss on the Xbox 360 is an age of empires style game.

My thoughts are that with Bethesda great game designing skills, they could make the ultimate game to topple all others.

Its the kind of game you can put on when bored and play a random map where every game is different.

I used to play it for hours on the pc, but as I've moved over to consoles for playing games (I can lay back far way from big high def TV and relax instead of sitting less than a meter away from a monitor with a keyboard and mouse), there isn't a game out on the market that fills that place.

On PC, Warcraft from which "World of Warcraft" was originally a similar style game, and there have been various other games like Age of Mytholgy, Cleopatra etc etc but nothing is really there for the console. Nothing good anyhow.

There is the Tropico series but that about it.

There is the recent game title Dust which is reaching out to a similar audience. I'm not sure how the independent random games will be for this though.
I want a game where I can design and build my towns.

Anyone else?

Belongs in CD.

And:
Halo Wars was made by Ensemble, the same people that made the Age of Empires games. Disregarding the licence and obvious console limitations it was pretty good. Not as flexible as the Age of games and some weird objective fail/complete conditions.

After playing Halo Wars I'm pretty cynical about RTS games on the console. I hate to talk like the console-hating crowd, but the game was immensely, dare I say it?, dumbed down to fit on the console controls. RTS games, with their inherit complexity, just don't work properly on consoles without over-simplifying the gameplay.

The original C&C's on the PS1 played very well and not too different from the PC version.
Halo wars was Dumbed down and could have been so much better.
I think game developers think were getting dumber.

Ah... Age of Empires 2.... what a gem.

So many memories. I didn`t like Age 3 for some reason and I still haven`t found anything to replace Age 2, I still play with friends after all this time.

Huns + Mongols team = total destruction to everyone else.

Hmmm... should Bethesda make a game like that?

YES!

As much as i'd love to see some more decent RTS games out there, why would Bethesda (who specialize in open-world games) decide to make an RTS game?

And RTS games really have no business being on consoles. :P

I had this idea although instead of Age of Empires it was Total War. A group of modders managed to create a Middle Earth Total War conversion which was absolutely fantastic called Third Age Total War and when I saw it I instantly had the idea of a Tamriel version of it.

I've no idea how it could be done but It would be brilliant nonetheless.

Bungie did Myth, an RTS, after doing, what, 4 shooters? It was a huge hit.

yer I agree the original c&c was good then it went away from the build factor and more to the battle side of the game and it took away the ability to create your own world.

I forgot about Halo Wars. I haven't actually played it but it looks like it is similar to the original C&C but taken to the next level.

With the age of empires and other games such as Caesar, Pharaoh, Master of Olympus - Zeus, Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom it that it is more centered on creating and building your town and people.

The war and battle part comes second.

With the lore and races of the TES games I thought something like this would be good. You could spend hours setting out how you'd like your town to be. houses, churches, blacksmiths, shops, markets, potion shops, barracks, Making fortified walls etc.

Every race would be unique in its look architecture and bonuses

Maybe it doesn't have to be TES but something similar.

Take it from me,Halo wars is very differnt from C&C.

I would not be opposed to an age of empires style of game, but I hope that they make it work on consoles!
It has been done before,It can be done again.
