Oblivion keeps crashing after trying to sell stolen goods

Post » Tue Aug 16, 2011 8:08 am

Is this like a Fallout 3 bug where a savegame is just corrupt and i have to load up another one? Cause this sure is reminding me of it. It was WAY worse in New Vegas though. But this is during the Independent Thievery, where i have to sell stolen goods to Orrin. As soon as i sell one of the goods my game crashes, i have to reboot my Xbox 360, because it completely crashes. Is this a known bug...or am i just unlucky now?

I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is that you maybe have fenced too much

You mean i sold too much stolen goods? Well from what i understand i must sell 600 gold worth of stolen goods, and i'm at like 580. This is reminding me of Fallout 3 where after 100+ hours the game crashed on me, and if i reloaded that savegame again..it would crash again. It required me to load a older savefile.

Oblivion has never crashed after a certain amount of hrs. I have more than 1500 hrs and the game has never crashed because of that. Well you haven′t fenced too much that for sure. Hopefully someone will know about this problem but if you don′t get any help here, try posting in the tech section.

The weird thing is...i was able to sell alot of my own stolen goods but i didnt have enough. So i quit the conversation with Orrin and just stole some of his stuff there, he got angry but also said it was fine, maybe this is triggering the crash? I guess i shouldn't steal there.

Yeah I've fenced about 1500 gold in my first 15 hours of this character so it's not that you're fencing too much. (Just call her a kleptomaniac, everytime she sees a silver vase or goblet she has to steal it.)

I have no idea what it might be, but I was just here to reassure you I've never heard of fencing 'too much'.

It's possible to trigger a bug that messes up the quest line if you fence a lot. Best not to fence too much more than the requirement before going and talking to the next quest-giver. See the Bugs notes in the UESP http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Independent_Thievery.

I don't think that's what's happening here, though.

Oh no! I'll have to start stashing my stolen loot at home until it's time!

I've been doing mostly quests for the Thieves Guild, and thus fenced over 500 gold worth of stolen goods. So i now only need to find a few more stolen goods. I'm close to 600, just need a few more things. The game locked up for me when i tried to sell the items i had just stolen from his shop,....so now i'm just going to other towns, looting homes ,trying not to get caught. So far so good. Apart from these lock ups, i never had a lock up before, and have played it a total of 133 hours.
