Everyone you care about is dead don't you care?!

Post » Tue Aug 16, 2011 2:42 pm

ok so i was playing around in Oblivion and i was in Leyawiin and the countess called me pondscum [i really didn't feel like bribing her to not insult me] so i snuck into the castle that night and killed her ]with the Cowl of Nocturnal on] and their personal guards! [and the Argonion and Khajiit chicks] and so i escaped into the night and came back the next day, i talked to the count and he didn't even care! their wasent even an option to talk about it. i want to know if this is fixed in Skyrim, if i kill someone i want to see some emotion! at least a feeling of loss, and not someone who could care less if their wife was murdered in the middle of the night in the same bed as them. so is this fixed in Skyrim? if not do you think Npc's with feelings should be added in Skyrim?

discuss.

It seems like it would be a lot of work to do that with every NPC in the game. The most we can hope for is them being in a sad mood afterwards.

Since the options in TES are nearly limitless it's very hard to implement a system like this, especially dialogue options. If he knew it was you who killed her, adjusting his disposition would be an easy thing to do. More realisticly, he would attack you on sight. But creating a dynamic system that controls all inner-character relations and on top of that add dialogue for all those options seems like something that won't happen in games for a long time.

The only possible solution would be to script in certain events (like a wife death) for certain more important NPCs and make them react accordingly and pre-record dialogue for that. But it will probably still feel limited.

I agree. I just meant to the extent that if they see a dead body they don't just go around like there isn't a dead body 2 inches from where they are standing. (ie. they actually notice things, but are not psychics are know your every move and know exactly what you did at all times)

They wouldn't need to do it for every npc but certainly key ones like jarls and whatnot. lol it would be hilarious if they wanted you to investigate a murder which you commited!

I think that NPC's should react to death at the moment, as death post-mortom.

I am all for this, a lot of Dev time would have to be put in though, every NPC ( or most ) would have to be linked with a group of more NPC's and dialogue for every individual death would have to be recorded... I don't think it will happen unfortunately.

They could create links between certain NPCs. So that if you kill one, then one of the linked NPCs will have dialogue options like 'comfort'.

:sadvaultboy: sigh... but you never know. even if it's just important character's that care that'll be enough!

How do you know he didn't realise she was dead and thought she was merely resting :D

But I hope they change this for Skyrim but they have said if you kill a shopkeeper their family members takeover and don't like you for what you have done.

well I don't know how in-depth they will get with it but Todd did say that Radiant story will make so that if you kill someone their family will pick up the quest for that person and react to you by hating you and you have to earn trust back or may even lay an ambush in the quest that wouldn't have been there because you killed their family.

yea totally they should. it would make one "feel" something on an emotional level when you might happen say upon the daughter of
a NPC you killed...seeing her crying or going to the local chapel praying for her late father! it would be very nice to see an added dimesion
such as this to the game.
personally, i never killed anyone innocent in oblivion...could never do it for some reason.

There is a DB quest in oblivion where you must kill a guy named Baenlin, and his "bodyguard" stays in the tavern drinking and crying.

I doubt they have done this... because my first impression is it would be too much work, but after thinking about it, it really wouldn't require all that much. Simply use factions and if a faction member of high value dies then you could lower the personality of the survivors for a while, making them grumpy at least, and add some simple dialogue to each race like "I've lost a loved one, go away". Give them a little timer to grieve and then resume normal behavior. Most NPC's have their own faction in their family anyway, and belong to several factions so it wouldn't take much to do this.
