Reagents in Alchemy

Sounds good. The more realism and complexity the happier I am. Alchemy was a lot more fun in the Witcher when you needed a base for every potion. I'm also hoping we need vials for potions.

Yes I'm afraid you're wrong , reagents are catalysts that speed up the reaction or reduce the energy needed to trigger it .

Catalyst, that's the word ! Thank you, kind sir...

You can't feel it, but you can taste it... (joking)

another name for reagents is catalyst, something brought into a system to bring about change. You can read this is as, they are breaking up alchemy a little more realistic. Meaning you have ingredients that are put together and do nothing, then when you add the reagent, baaaammm!!! the chemical reaction starts and it's a potion...

edit:: got ninja'd... and I though I was somewhat smart to know that :(

Also catalysts (regeants) are not required for a chemical reaction. they just speed it up.

I liked the baam touch .... heheh really funny .
But I'm afraid the journalist was misunderstood , he meant Ingredients when he said reagents .... read my previous post on the previous page .

I don't know what chemistry courses you guys were taking, but "reagent" in all my chemistry classes was just another word for "reactant," i.e. something that you react with something else in order to get a product. In TES alchemy terms, an ingredient.
More technically, I think there's a subtle difference. Catalysts and solvents are reagents, but not all reagents are catalysts. So this could go either way as far as Skyrim is concerned. Maybe reagents are meant to be some kind of additional ingredient that doesn't change the effect of a potion, but affects its magnitude/duration?

You were possibly thinking of a solvent? Solvents are sometimes classed as reagents, as are catalysts.

Quite simply though, a reagent is 'a substance that is added to a system in order to bring about a chemical reaction or is added to see if a reaction is possible.' - Compendium of Chemical Terminology, 2nd Ed.

I suppose it's possible that someone just got the terminology mixed up, but reagents require certain purity standards that would be very difficult to find in substances in their natural state. We'll just have to wait and see...

Yes, but high school was a long time ago, my friend...

But I guess the question still remains... What "reagents" mean to BGS ?... Or rather to the journalists who wrote the articles ?...

In "the Witcher" to make potions you have to use a liquid "base"... I don't know if this is in Skyrim or not, but is kind a "realistic" way to make potions (maybe "realistic" is not the best choice of word here)

Oh well, I suppose in November 11 we will see if alchemy has been improved or not. :)
