LIVE Achievements for PC

Post » Wed Aug 17, 2011 11:33 am

I'm a veteran of Xbox LIVE and have found Achievements to be as motivating to keep me playing as a games immersion. I've played Oblivion to completion on 360 but couldn't bring myself to do it again on PC (no LIVE so no achievements). Completed Fallout 3 on 360 and PC. Playing New Vegas on 360 but already decided not to bother on PC (Steam achievements only).

I know this may not be a motivator for everyone but whether it be for completing storyline or carrying out some obscure quest - I appreciate the recognition of my progress.

Needless to say, I am hoping Skyrim is LIVE enabled on PC, just for the extra motivation. Steam achievements can co-exist - like they do for Arkham Asylum, Warhammer: Dawn of War 2 and Universe at War.

If anyone knows the answer to this, I'd appreciate an update (crosses fingers it's good news!).

All fingers are pointing towards it being a Steamworks game.

If the game ends up being a Steamworks game (which seems highly likely) then we'll get Steam achievements.

I know what you are saying, XBL achievements have motivated me to do games/things in games I would not normally do. (Mortal Kombat comes to mind, damn Shao Khan, damn his sorry hide!) I have however, not had any problem playing Oblivion since it's achievements are mostly main quest and faction related. Fallout 3 and New Vegas had some achievements I had to go out of my way to grab though, like playing through the last part of the main quest in New Vegas several times but for different factions, or collecting all the files in Mothership Zeta.

When I first got Oblivion back when it came out I was a bit sad that it only had "boring" achievements that you could get by just playing the game. I wanted a challenge! Now however, I dread the games that got that one, unobtainable achievement since that means I can't "catch 'em all". :(

I hope Skyrim mostly has faction/main quest related achis that one can get on one play through but with some extra achievements to spice it up (Fallout style!).
Why? Because Skyrim will be awesome anyway, it does not need several hard to get achievements just to keep us in the game, the game itself will do that for us! I got 300+ hours logged on one Oblivion character. And I got all my achievements with him (except one, the Mania side of the Shivering Isles, since he chose Dementia :o), and I can promise you that most of those 59 achievements were unlocked in the first 150 hours of gameplay.. ;)

((I apologize in advance for any spelling errors or any errors of any other kind, since I'm so damn tired. All hail Mr. Spellcorrector, my loyal friend during posts like this. :) )

If Skyrim is achievement laden, I'll be making an AchievementRemover.esp on the day of release before loading the game.

You don't need to do that, notifications are easily switched off.

No, I do need to unless they can be completely turned off or the achievements are console specific like they were for Oblivion. Whether notified or not, I don't want achievements or any gamerscore. Also, I don't even want the game to run the associated code which can be somewhat extensive depending on the achievement tracked. Achievements must be obliterated!

Personally, I'm not opposed to GFWL or Steam as so long as neither is mandatory.

I think if you play in offline mode in steam it doesn't track achievements.

But they are still there, nontheless!

One could also cheat at the very beginning (a harmless cheat, clone and kill a mudcrab perhaps? :sadvaultboy: ) That way, Steam Achievements are blocked. (Me thinks')
