Potential Co-op as DLC

I see nothing wrong with having co-op.

It seems as if people are afraid to have relationships with real people through online play on the forums here.

I'd especially like the co-op if it functioned like Sacred 2 did. Where you could search online co-op games based on level, difficulty, etc. and you could participate in the main quest together or just roam around and do the side quests and defeat all of the boss creatures and such. It was very fun.

I say if there was multiplayer it should be one of two (or both!):

1. 4-Player free-roam. You can choose up to 3 of your friends to hop in an established world of that character. For example, if you made a brand new character, the world would be untouched. If your friends hop into that world, it appears as the hosts world. You can do quests together, fight monsters, or just role play. If you wanted to go to your friends world, than you would be wherever he/she has left off as the character you chose regardless of level, but the NPC's would be at the hosts level.

2. Arena. Have 1v1,2v2,3v3,4v4 death matches but with limitations (no paralyze, ect).

REally the only way I would want mp in a TES game is in a competitive Arena mode.

I think it would ruin it.
think about it , you're walking through a serene forest admiring the view and pondering the approach to that fort in the distance, when suddenly a character called 'HaLoGoD154468' appears next to you , the sound of potato chips being devoured booming through your speakers.

Bam! immersion gone.

The Saint's Row series is a perfect example of how much co-op can improve a game. I played the first Saint's Row and it was fun and provided plenty of entertainment, but the replay value was low. Once you complete the main story, there is little reason to go back and play again. However in Saint's Row 2, with the addition of co-op, I'm currently playing on my third playthrough with a friend. Each friend plays differently and adds a new dimension to gameplay.

Now I see TES being a similar situation. Although with TES, playing as different characters makes multiple playthroughs enjoyable. But aside from using magic over melee or vice versa, the game isn't much different. Now adding in a co-op human player adds a whole new element to the game. And in my opinion increases the fun factor exponentially. For those saying that it wouldn't work because there is only one dragonborn, you could have the guest player be similar to a follower in the game. The guest player, upon joining, would have the dragonborn abilities disabled. So only one player is technically dragonborn.

I know that TES has always been a single player game, but that doesn't mean it has to remain single player always. GTA has always been a single player game, but GTA 4 added multiplayer that gave the game a lot of replayability and a good 1st step in creating a much deeper multiplayer mode.

I don't know how anyone can disagree that adventuring through the TES world with a good friend wouldn't be a blast.

Like almost every other co-op/MP game, set options to "Friends Only" or "Private Game". Co-op/MP wouldn't be forced on the player. It's there for those who would want to use it and those who don't want it don't even have to acknowledge its existence.

Honestly I think 2 player co-op would be fun and you would have a companion who can actually think rather than Bethesda's terrible terrible companion/combat AI.

It wouldn't bother me if it was a separate part of the game and didn't affect the single-player, but I wouldn't be interested in playing it.

For me, ES games have always been about losing myself in an alien world, something that doesn't gel well with multiplayer. If there's two human players, there'll always be some level of your mind that is conscious / critical of how the other player is playing. Multiplayer can be a lot of fun, but it's fundamentally different to the single-player experience that ES games do so well. More 'gamey', often more competitive, almost unavoidably focused on what the other human player is doing.

NO NO NO.
And no!!

It starts with coop.... then it becomes multiplayer.... then it ends with a mmorpg.

NO AND NO.

Rpg games just aren't meant to be played in group. When I want to play in group, I play one of my beloved fighting games... not an rpg!
An rpg played with others is the same as reading a book with other people.

Already confirmed that there will be no co-op or multiplayer.
And thank god for that.

I have nothing against it but I cannot imagine how Beth would implement such a feature. If co-op is being put in a game I would want to co-op meaningfully. I do not see this being achieved in a game such as an elder scrolls game and this would not be the only thing that would be hard to accomplish.

I cannot imagine how 2 players can roam freely in this game without huge restrictions related to the main story, sidequests, guilds and more. I do not think a game such as skyrim is ready for anything regarding multiplayer and to be honest; I think it will never be.

Nah. I like Co-op and would like to see it in Elder Scrolls when it's possible, but not now.

There was a multiplayer mod for oblivion, although I'm not sure if it actually worked.

There's been multiplayer mods attempted since Morrowind. All of them hit a brick wall due to the lack of multiplayer code in the game, all they could do were dirty hacks and edits that were difficult to achieve and though they produced results, they were hardly satisfactory.

As for a DLC. Even something as simple as a co-op DLC would require a complete rewrite of the games engine. You can't just slap multiplayer code onto a game that was coded for single player, that kind of work has to be begun at the earliest stages of development.

They'd have to tear apart the game build and essentially start over.
