The War of Tamriel

Deltis Nolar

Literally seconds after Deltis introduced himself and before the Nord could respond, the Argonian wandered over and introduced himself, first to the Nord, “Hail, my name isss Whana- call me Sssnow-Scale. My argonian name would be too hard to pronounce,” and then to the rest of the group, Deltis included.
The Dunmer could feel rage building up inside him, that the lizard would dare address him after what he and his fellow reptiles done simply infuriated him. He did his best to control himself, his facial expression did not change, but had to say something. "Away with you, swamp scum. You animals should not mingle with Man, Mer or Khajiit. Crawl back to your vile marsh and leave the civilized peoples in peace." feeling that his rage was not subsiding, his fists were clenched, he would like nothing more than to strike the lizard. But, he did his best to compose himself and addressed the Nord once more.
"Now, Freyr, perhaps you and I could have a talk with eachother soon? Our people's rivalries are a thing of the past, the Dunmeri people appreciate the Nords' gifts."

At that, Deltis left the company of the group and scanned the room. The King of Daggerfall and High Rock was conversing with Thadon. "Over there Soril," he said to his aide, "I feel we should intervene. I wouldn't want him to alienate the Bretons, just in case Skyrim is unresponsive." He strolled over to the King casualy, wondering about the absence of the Redguard delegates so far.
"Hail, King of the Bretons," he bowed, "I have read of your and your father's exploits. I must say, uniting High Rock was politial genius, truely your family is blessed by Julianos. I am honoured that you would allow me in your presence. I have also heard of your prowess with a lance, I hear you are an acomplished jouster." he smiled, "I would like to extend the hand of friendship on behalf of the Dunmer people," he extended his hand, illustraing his point.
I hope it is a Breton custom to shake hands, they can't be all that different from the Imperials can they?

Whananz-Dzuun

"Well met." the Orc began. "I am General Ghoragdush gro-Urgak of Orsinium. It may seem odd that my people send a military leader to peace negotiations, but my King Shurgak insisted that I handle the diplomacy. My time in the Imperial Legion has made me probably more...friendly than the King."

“I’m glad to meet you.” Whananz-Dzuun replied. “while it doesss seemsss odd, I am too a military leader of argonia. Although we probably don’t have the sssame definition of military. They chosse me becaussse I managed to unite my people againssst the Dunmer. And dessspite of what Deltisss sayss we too are civilized.”

He did his best to ignore the verbal attack of the second dunmer, but was getting tired of it. he did his best not to start snarling back at him. He took a quick look at what Hur-Ei was writing down and could barely read. No need to talk to the dunmers. they actually believe they are the victims. He sighted. Right now the only ones left were General Ghoragdush gro-Urgak, Ri’Renji and Freyr. he hoped to atleast get two allies of the three and he had his list of preferences. Eventually he couldn’t shut it anymore.

“be honesst. What did they expect? To keep treating usss like that and expect we would keep accepting it? someday they would wake up with a dagger in their throatsss. The rest wasss mere retribution. What would you have done if you ssstood in our shoesss ?” he asked to the three ambassadors. He quickly regretted what he said. “forget about that. How hasss it been going in your provinces? Do your people also intend to find a way to keep peace?”

Council Chambers
Camaron Thagor

In retrospect, it may have been preferable to be even more late.

So far, the negotiations were a bit underwhelming to the king even as they were yet to start, as he noted while shaking the hand of this new Dunmer. Being swarmed by Dark Elves wasn't what he had anticipated - in fact, Camaron had rather hoped to leave the easterners to their own devices (and many, many rivalries) and instead make certain that the Redguards and the Nords are otherwise preoccupied and uninterested or unable to interfere with his affairs. But alas, the Redguard delegation was nowhere in sight and the Nords were being swarmed by every person in the room.

The shadow of a smile momentarily passed over his face. "We had no idea that our exploits were so well known in the east, truly. Our father is much more worthy of admiration, after all it was upon his legacy that everything we built stands." All the flattery was rather annoying, in fact - to downplay his achievements once when complimented, perhaps, but twice from the same delegation was leaning towards untactful. The prospect of every delegate opening conversation with him in such a manner was a dreaded one indeed.

"Your compatriot and we were merely enjoying a light discussion on the state of northern Tamriel... And on that note," Camaron turned back to Thaden. "It is regretful, but little reliable news reach us of our eastern cousins; one can only asume that their intentions are, as always, militant, though towards which side we could not say. The Western Reach separates our kingdoms from their nearest hold of Haafinheim, and it is not a barrier easily crossed. Compare them if you would, perhaps, with your Ashlands - what hostility is lacking in the environment is well made up for by the people. Our Reachmen kin tend to be remarkably disagreeable when it comes to interacting with Tamriel at wide."

As he spoke, the king made a small gesture with his right hand that indicated Samuel was free to go for the moment; the nobleman responded with a bow to his sovereign and, nodding to both Dunmer, stepped away from their little group. One hand still on his sword's pommel and his face quite stern, he didn't look like much of a diplomat as he walked along the chamber's majestic wall, heading towards no one and nowhere in particular.

It was, perhaps, because of this misplacement that Bridwell found himself heading towards the larger assembly, including yet another Dunmer (And here I thought their troubles reduced their numbers, it seems they wasted no time in making up lost ground) and the Orcish general Ghoragdush. He'd heard quite a lot of the Orc and, although Bretons generally tended to dislike the folk of Orsinium quite strongly, couldn't help but feel some respect - after all, they were both soldiers; though Samuel never even considered serving in the Legion, his family had a long history of renowned warriors and he himself had had quite a few chances to lead the Bridwell bannermen to war in King Camaron's name. It wasn't his place to speak with the dignitaries, of course, but the knight spared a nod of greeting for the general.

Imperial Palace
Aries

The Bosmer sat around the edge of the circular table quietly observing the attempts at democracy going on around the room. Several delegates were involved in conversation, Aries could see one of the Dunmer chatting to the Breton representative, Aries knew the Breton as a King or something similar however he was unfamiliar with the Dunmer. Caeron was busying himself rifling through his papers, making frantic notes based on the delegates present and any potential alliances he could see forming. "Sir I know we haven't mentioned it, but our old allies the Altmer could prove to be very useful allies and if the worst happens we are going to sorely need allies, lest we are forced to perform the ritual" he said the last part with a serious look of fear, Bosmer rarely mentioned the Wild Hunt and what happens to those involved. The Hunt? He can't be serious, monsters from men. It will be a dire day when we resort to such destructive means.

"Aires!" he looked around the room upon hearing his name, a tall female Altmer was striding towards him, he could recognise her face but a name escaped him until Caeron leaned close and whispered Anirne in his ear. “How good it is to see you here, why it has been an age, an age indeed. I do hope you remember me, I met you once at a meeting held in Valenwood.” as she spoke he was reminded of the meeting, nothing too important just a discussion between the Bosmer and Altmer agreeing on trade and other similar issues.

"It has indeed been an age, however time seems to have failed to leave its mark on you, you're still as beautiful as when we first met." The tall Altmer was stood over him now making him feel even smaller. He gestured of Thauron to rise and give the lady his seat. Thauron did so dutifully and left the ambassadors to talk, he decided to stand near the door where he could survey the whole room. Aries watched his bodyguard leave and settled into his chair ready to talk to the Altmer. Here's my first test then, can I secure a potential ally or are we doomed from the start? No an alliance now would be too soon, lay the foundations, we have time to work on that during our stay. "I trust that we find you well? How fare the Altmer I understand there was some issue with the Psijic Order?"

Arirne

Arirne smiled and the Bosmer replied, "It has indeed been an age, however time seems to have failed to leave its mark on you, you're still as beautiful as when we first met." She grinned, flattery suggested alot about the relationship between the Bosmer and Altmer. One of the guards rose and let the maiden sit down, she was relieved to see and moved to sit.

"I trust that we find you well? How fare the Altmer I understand there was some issue with the Psijic Order?" The Bosmer said,

Pride stopped her from telling the truth about the recent turmoil the Psijic Order had cause in her home province, admitting weakness this early in the game was not good form.

"Well indeed, we Altmer are always well and yes, the Psijic Order is growing prominantly in the Summerset Isles. They are most useful to us and have promised to.." She stopped herself before she said too much, the other races must not know that the Isles were only to be guarded by the Order. "to help the people of Summerset, grow stronger. Why recently they have taken in a great number of members, some worry about this, but they are just expanding in order to help the Summerset Isles. I do hope you recieved the letter I wrote, I fear the messenger I sent it with was not entirely trustworthy but it spoke of a.." she lowered her voice, careful that the other members of the council would hear her, "a potential renewal of the Thalmor and the Aldmeri Dominion, but we shall speak more of this another time. How fares the woods of Valenwood?"

Ri'Renji.

“I would gladly accept your invitation and as it happens, I too am staying at the hotel. Perhaps I shall see you around the place. You seem one of the few reasonable people in this room.” She said and glanced towards the Bosmer. “For now however I shall leave you in the capable hands of my page,” she turned to face the old, elf who had been at her side the entire time. “Sargenius, please make the correct arrangements.” Arinre passed by her aid and swept imperiously into the room.

The Khajiit ambassedor knew that she was lying to him of course, he had checked with the Imperial that ran the hotel and the Altmer's name had not been amongst those that were residing there. He dismissed the lie swiftly from his mind however. It was a small, polite and civilized untruth. Of no matter. "Please tell the lady that once this one retires to his quarters for the evening, he shall remain there. He shall be ready to accompany her to dinner at her convenience." Ri'Renji thanked the assistant before politely dismissing him. He was turning in his chair to face the small group gathering behind him when Jo'Dar suddenly sprang into his lap.

"What is it?" He chuckled at the Alfiq as he scratched it between the ears. The small feline pushed it's face closer, rubbing the back of his head against Ri'Renji's chest. The Alfiq was telling him that one of the other delegates required his attention. It was most likely the Argonian delegate. Good news already, the Alfiq's bodylanguage meant that he didn't believe that the white scaled Argonian intended to be hostile. He placed the small feline on the floor by his feet with an affectionate chuckle. "Off with you." It's message delivered, the Alfiq stalked away into the room once more. If he could, Jo'Dar would find some way of letting him know exactly what the Argonian wanted.

Ri'Renji turned his attention back to the room and saw that many of the various delegates were gathering into small clusters. The Orc, Nord and Argonian had all grouped together near his seat. As he watched, one of the Dumer approached the Argonian and almost barked in his face. "Away with you, swamp scum. You animals should not mingle with Man, Mer or Khajiit. Crawl back to your vile marsh and leave the civilized peoples in peace." Ri'Renji's lip curled a little in disgust at the elf's outburst. He was also more than a little offended that the Dunmer would try to make a distinction between the beast races. Clearly the hortator had a short memory and had conveniently forgotten the years of slavery.

The Argonian was infuiated by the Dunmer's outburst. It was clear that he struggled with himself for a moment. But as one of the leaders of the rebellion, he couldn't contain his martial pride. “Be honesst. What did they expect? To keep treating usss like that and expect we would keep accepting it? someday they would wake up with a dagger in their throatsss. The rest wasss mere retribution. What would you have done if you ssstood in our shoesss ?” he asked to the three ambassadors. Ri'Renji nodded in silent agreement as Whananz-Dzuun paused before attempting to backtrack. “forget about that. How hasss it been going in your provinces? Do your people also intend to find a way to keep peace?”

"Certainly." Ri'Renji replied. "This one can assure you that the Mane desires peace and stability Snow Scale." He stood and limped towards the Argonian. "It is a pleasure for this one to meet yet another great warrior and leader." Ri'Renji shook the Argonian delegate's hand and leaned in closer and quietly said, "Perhaps he could request a meeting with you, the Mane has instructed him of business concerning the Argonian empire." He glanced towards the buffet table, where Jo'Dar was prowling, glaring meaningfully at Ri'Renji. The Ambassedor smiled as he got the Alfiq's meaning. "We could talk over lunch perhaps?"

He turned to face Ri’Renji who seemed to have receive the message he had send via the Alfiq. So I was right about my suspicion. What an easy way to listen in on what the others have to say. Clever. “I’m flattered that you think of me asss a great warrior and leader. To hear ssuch words from the nephew of the Mane himself is a great compliment.” He thanked him. “I would enjoy diner with you. I have rented quarters in the White Gold tower. the view is remarkable, although nothing beats home, sweet home.”

He saw his friend taking quick notes as he took in everything that happened around him.

“whatever time suits you, friend. If I may call you that?”

Freyr Cold-Heart

“If this turns to war, it would be an honor to fight one such as yourself .”

Freyr couldn't resist the deep, hearty chuckle that escaped him. The ale probably wasn't helping, but he was starting to like the Orc. Green skinned and ugly for sure, but a good warrior and that's what mattered to Freyr. He wasn't the smartest delegate of the bunch but even he knew that a war was on the horizon.

“Now that's what I'm talking about! Fighting spirit, too bad there aren't enough people who share your opinion.”

He took a great swig of the ale, some of it running down the corners of his mouth and into his beard.

“You know, us warrior might make quite a team, be something fierce in battle,” he winked. Testing the waters, maybe an alliance would be beneficial. Plus their warriors were some of the few that could match a Nord in physical prowess.

Freyr just then noticed the Dunmer, and he smiled, but not the happy just a met a long time friend smile, but more of a “I'm going to kill you”, smile. He knew his assistant would probably want an alliance between the two of them but he couldn't push away the memories of the Dunmer he had killed or the lives they had taken from him.

That was a long time ago though. He took another drink and discovered to great disappointment, it was empty. He grumbled wanting another drink but knew he might be at the table for a while. The Argonian had just arrived and was causing quite a stir with the Dunmer, Freyr half hoped a fight would break out right then, you could smell the bloodlust between the two.

Harsh words were exchanged, but to his sadness, no fists flung or blades drawn. The Dunmer stalked away hoping they would exchange words again. Freyr made a mental note to tell his assistant to help arrange a meeting. If he could push old rivalries aside and do what's best for Skyrim, that just might mean allying with the Dunmer.

The Argonian, calling himself Snow Scale (which Freyr rather liked) made voice to his anger. Making thinly veiled threats, the Nord just nodded. Slitting necks in their sleep was not his method.

“Could challenge him to a duel, that's what would do. Smash his skull in,” he laughed. It was a long time since he had been in a good battle.

At the mention of peace the Nord grumbled,

“Chh peace. If we can't even keep it in our borders how can we expect to make it with other nations?”

He immediately regretted his talk. No one needed to know that the Nords were currently divided. The current High King of Skyrim was certainly not liked by all, his new age thinking went it again some Nord traditions and some very much liked the old ways, they saw no need for change.

The treaty with the Dunmer was the most controversial act yet and some said it might lead to civil war.

He quickly turned his attention back to Snow-Scale, for a question he actually wanted to know.

"Snow-Scale, I here talk that your warriors specialize in poisons and are quite skilled with the bow."

He eyed the Argonian carefully, he wanted to make sure he wasn't going to ally with no cowards.

Peace Councils, The Imperial Palace
Aries

The Altmer took the offered seat, "Well indeed, we Altmer are always well and yes, the Psijic Order is growing prominantly in the Summerset Isles. They are most useful to us and have promised to.." She paused before she replied, she's not telling me the whole truth. I won't push her though, not here at least., Aries was however undaunted by this, he understood the growing need for secrecy/ These are dark times, perhaps darker than we understand. "to help the people of Summerset, grow stronger. Why recently they have taken in a great number of members, some worry about this, but they are just expanding in order to help the Summerset Isles. I do hope you recieved the letter I wrote, I fear the messenger I sent it with was not entirely trustworthy but it spoke of a.." he had not received the letter, but there had been rumors of sightings of the hunt and a messenger could easily have been swallowed up into their teaming mass and spit out with no skin. She continued her sentence in a quieter tone "a potential renewal of the Thalmor and the Aldmeri Dominion, but we shall speak more of this another time. How fares the woods of Valenwood?"

"The Woods are well, the populace is thriving and The Precursor guides us well, he tells us that Y'ffre is returning with new gifts to aid us." Perhaps he's bringing us the power to win this war. if Aries was totally honest he was skeptical about this self-proclaimed prophet and his teachings, it seemed a little too convenient. "As for your proposition, we would be most interested. Our only suggestion being that we dispense with the name Aldmeri, we need a new Dominion for a new Era. This is a matter that will require further discussion, do you happen to be available for such a discussion anytime soon?"

Arirne

"The Woods are well, the populace is thriving and The Precursor guides us well, he tells us that Y'ffre is returning with new gifts to aid us." A thriving population could mean plenty of men for their armies and new gifts, could be useful.. she thought but was sceptical about the whole thing, the Bosmeri religion was not something that truly interested her "As for your proposition, we would be most interested. Our only suggestion being that we dispense with the name Aldmeri, we need a new Dominion for a
new Era. This is a matter that will require further discussion, do you happen to be available for such a discussion anytime soon?"

"I am unavailable tonight, I have arranged a meeting with the Khajiit, they could be useful allies for the New Dominion and as for the name, why, New Dominion sounds quite appealing to me, unless you can think of a better name." She said smiling, this 'New Dominion' name would not be appreciated by the Psijics nor the Altmer at home but sometimes sacrifices had to be made in order for the race to progress and Altmer pride would just have to suffer this once. Her page walked over to her and repeated what the Khajiit had told him, "Excuse this interruption my friend," She said politely and turned to speak to the page, "Inform him that I shall arrive at his room at seven twenty and not a minute later and also, please watch the Dunmer and Argonians. Fighting must not take place here, it would undermine the whole thing."

Raccan and Oleta Stacey

A loud knocking sound interrupted Raccan's sleep. His ship, Yokudan Might, had just arrived in the waterfront of the Imperial City for the council meeting. First Mate Coyle peered around the door of Raccan's private cabin.

"Cap'n, it's time for the meeting, I've woke up the girl, Oleta Stacey, she should be on deck shortly, but be careful, I don't trust her,"
Coyle has always been good to Raccan, the longest serving crewmember, besides himself, a good friend.

"D'ya have the notes about the other ambassadors?" asked Raccan
"Yes sir. I'll give you more information once we get to the palace. First though, get dressed!"
Coyle left the cabin, walking back on deck, allowing the captain to prepare.

Oleta Stacey was patiently waiting for Raccan to emerge from his cabin, they had recently decided on an alliance between the Crowns and Forebears in order to give the Redguards a more unified front. The captain emerged from his cabin dressed in a russet felt outfit and burgundy linens with a cutlass jeweled at the hilt.

"Greetings Miss Stacy, I hope we can gain some worthy allies at this council," Turning towards his first mate he said "Coyle, you're coming with us."

Once the trio entered the palace, Oleta chirped up "Coyle, what do you know about the Breton people?"
Scrolling through his notes, Coyle finally answered "Their representative is King Camaron Thagor, being neighbours he may be more open for an alliance."

The council chamber was a grand structure with talk already underway. Raccan and Oleta caught sight of Camaron and swiftly moved over to greet him.

Oleta was the first to speak "Greetings, I am Oleta Stacey, this is Captain Raccan of the Redguards. Pleased to meet you."

An alliance with the Nords...the King would not like that one bit. However, the King decided to leave the diplomacy to me. He obviously did not inherit his father's charisma. Ghoragdush thought as the Nord responded. We have a common enemy, and I have had experiance leading Nords in battle before. An alliance would be helpfull, though at the very least I must keep them from joining with the Altmer. Why am I even worrying about that? The Orc chuckled a bit after that last thought, about the same time Freyr mentioned a duel between the Argonian and Dunmer.

"Perhaps. Our warriors are probably the best in Tamriel, and I have no doubt that we have commanders with experiance. I have seen many of your kin during my time in the Legion. Brave, strong, and willing to follow orders. Well, at least good orders." Ghoragdush gave a glance to the door. That last point was probably the only difference between the Orcs and Redguards. At first, he hoped that an alliance between the Orcs, Bretons, and Redguards would be possible, though seeing that the Redguards are so disorganised, Ghoragdush had to think of alternatives. If we wish to have a chance against the Altmer, we need that Redguard navy. We also need mages. Hopefully good King Camaron is willing to forget the past.

Freyr's attention then shifted to the Argonian. Ghoragdush decided to leave him to his questioning while he took a seat and continued to look over his notes. However, one thing caught his eye. The Altmer was now talking with the Bosmer. Damn dogs. the Orc thought. They will be on the same side, I have no doubt in that. The Khajiit can not be allowed to side with them.

Ghoragdush was interrupted by the opening of the chamber door. Entering the council chamber was another Orc, though this one was a bit different from the others. Clad in robes, he was one of the few mages that the Orcs had. He was a lower-ranking Orc than what would be expected at such a meeting. Obviously he was a messanger. As soon as the General saw the Orc, he quickly got up from his seat and motioned for the messanger to follow him over to his guards to the side.

"My General," the messanger began in a lowered voice, offering a slight bow. "I bring word from our shamen. They say that you and your army have the favor of Mauloch. We still do not have the resources for you to speak with him, though we have summoned several Ogrim as you have asked."

"Good, good," Ghoragdush replied with a slight smile on his face. "The Ogrim should be kept in reserve. While we will need them to take cities, but not this one." The General began to walk back to the group. "However, I must speak with Mauloch. If we are to win any war, we will need the favor of our god."

The messanger saluted and rushed out of the chamber while Ghoragdush rejoined the other ambasadors. He took a seat a little further from the others, so once the negotiation truely began he could see all of the represenatives. The Empire...The King may not approve, but I will not attack those who I have treated as brothers for so long.

Then, the Redguards finally entered the chamber. Ghoragdush, who was just about to start looking over his notes again, watched as they walked over to Camaron. While he wanted to talk with both the Redguards and the Breton, the general went back to looking over his notes, specifically for the Reguards. Interresting...these two Redguards are ones who I could respect, and respect leads to trust.

Thaden, Council Chambers

Thaden grimaced as Deltis approached him and the Bretic King. Damn it. He thought as he watched the much younger mer approach and greet the King.

"Hail, King of the Bretons, I have read of your and your father's exploits. I must say, uniting High Rock was politial genius, truely your family is blessed by Julianos. I am honoured that you would allow me in your presence. I have also heard of your prowess with a lance, I hear you are an acomplished jouster. I would like to extend the hand of friendship on behalf of the Dunmer people." Said the mer as he stretched out his hand.

Julianos? Hmph this new age of Dunmer has even forgotten their true gods. Azura have mercy on their foolishness. After the disappearance of Vivec many of the younger Dunmer in the nation had converted to imperialism, while the others either clung to the old church ways or reverted back to Daedra worship. Thaden had never really been a part of the Tribunal Temple, during Helseth's reign it was frowned upon. Therefore after the Tribunal had been cast down by Nerevar Thaden, like many of the other Dunmer, had reverted to worshiping Azura.

"We had no idea that our exploits were so well known in the east, truly. Our father is much more worthy of admiration, after all it was upon his legacy that everything we built stands. Your compatriot and we were merely enjoying a light discussion on the state of northern Tamriel... And on that note," Camaron then turned back to face Thaden, "It is regretful, but little reliable news reach us of our eastern cousins; one can only asume that their intentions are, as always, militant, though towards which side we could not say.

Thaden let a slight frown cross his face as he replied, "Yes that is truly regretful. However if you do happen to come across any...useful information please feel free to contact me, it would be greatly appreciated." Thaden smiled once again and then looked over the King's shoulder towards the two new arrivals. The two Redguards seemed to be heading towards the King. "It seems as though the Ra'Gada would like to speak with you. Me and my counterpart will let you speak in privacy, no doubt that you and your friends from across the Illiac have much to discuss. Gooday Muthsera." Thaden gave a short bow and then motioned for Deltis to follow him.

"I would prefer that you not interfere with such talks," he said reverting back to Dunmeri, "I will not do anything to jeopardize the security of our Nation or harm any potential alliances. I am simply collecting information in the case that we are forced to war. Now what news have you gathered on the Nords? Are they willing to seek out an...alliance." Thaden strained to push the word past his lips. He had fought in many battles against the Nords, and killed more than his share of them. Even though the thought of an alliance pained him, it was possibly the only thing that could get the Dunmer out of the mess the were in.
