The graphics of Skyrim

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 2:30 am

However, the console version of The Witcher 2 will not be the best looking RPG to date.

When I last saw the console version I thought it looked great. Not a lot, but still quite better than Skyrim on the console.

One thing that Skyrim does better than no other game though when it comes to visuals is to make the environments themselves look beautiful and interesting.
Not that this has anything at all to do with graphics or technology, but more with... how you build the world and how you want to make it look in terms of art/design and aethestics.

well maxed out would have 8xAA which isn't goin to happen and the SS already prove how short the draw distances are

Well of course not that.

No matter what though, the game will look great. It may not be on par with other games, but it's TES. Best series ever.

...and regenerative health coupled with quest markers as the icing on the cake that are the deal breakers for me.

Is that confirmed that there is regen health?

Please say it ain't so

Although the Graphics are a huge improvement, They are not the best graphics I have ever seen, Honestly, I really don't care about Graphics, I'm more interested than Gameplay, Lore and Story.

The graphics are pretty bad and certainly not competitive for a modern game

What? That's not the impression I get at all, and it doesn't seem like the journalists that went hands on feel that way either. You do know that the console version of The Witcher 2 will look no where as good as the PC version right? Skyrim's graphics are more than competitive on consoles for an open world game and since we've only seen the console version that's the only version we can make a fair assessment on.

Search the Peter Hines Interview. It is confirmed. It is not a deal breaker as it only regen slowly and outside of combat. Just means you dont have to do dumb stuff like wait 1 hr after a big battle.

I would play this game if it looked like Oblivion honestly, but the improvements make it that much better. I wouldn't go as far to say the best I've ever seen though, but those weren't massive open-world, sand-box RPGs.

EDIT: Also, I play on 360 just to solidify my point.

Exactly but everyone still whines either way.

Graphics are great for outdated hardware.

It looks good (im DEFINETELY not very picky when it comes to graphics). The Witcher 2 is A LOT more beutiful, but that does not bother me and its a huge open world.

I'm not basing my comment on the console version, though. If I were, graphics are ok then. But we know that Skyrim won't have any additional effects on PC, merely a naturally higher resolution and bigger textures to correspond. Todd said this, so we know it's going to look basically the same. But as I said, the graphics here aren't a huge hurdle for me because I know that there will be texture mods for the PC (even though there shouldn't need to be), and maybe some other effects can be worked in over time.

Why would someone wait an hour instead of simply using a health spell?

Fair enough, but also keep in mind that at QuakeCon Todd said the PC version even looks "way better".

to be honest, I think it's leaps and bounds above oblivion, and that's a great looking game.
sure, it's not the best it can be, but modders will bring the game up to the limits of what technology can do, I'm sure
heck, I can't wait to see what Oblivion looks like once it gets an overhaul on par with the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r6hilB6Dlc

These graphics are surely going to be the best I have seen in a long time.

Imo,

Graphics (overall): Very good, 8.25 / 10
Art Direction: Exceptional 9.0 / 10

I personally think some stuff looks mouthwateringly amazing! like the fog and some of the lighting effects I've seen.

But on the other hand some stuff just looks meh, but all the marketing is done on 360. The lower rez stuff we've seen will probably look much crisper on PC. At least I hope so.

its great looking for a console game and i can see how people that play on consoles think its better looking that real life. but for PC snobs like me its nothing special. to be honest im more interested in the art style and aesthetics. im one of those people that thinks morrowind "looks better" than skyrim even though its textures are smaller and meshes are very low poly. it just has better art design

the important issues for me were global lighting and shadows. shadows are definitely in and i think i saw global lighting was in somewhere but im less sure about that. this is good news

they could only get more npcs on screen after they combined the armor. my 3 year old PC ran oblivion with qarls texture packs, AEVWD (adds more objects to lods so they show up in the distance), armor/weapons and misc item replacers and mods like TIE which more than doubled the amount of npcs in the game just fine. if this doesnt once and for all show consoles are holding back gaming on top of developers like DICE and ID also saying so, i dont know what will convince sony and microsoft to hurry up with their new consoles?

im hopeful though. Todds initial G4 interview said that all the systems will look very similar. however, that was months ago. at quakecon he said the PC version will look waaaaaaaaay better. not just better but waaaay better. maybe im just hearing something thats not really there out of pure desperation but im hoping that bethesda saw all the threads about PCs having more power and being able to utilize it and hopefully bethesda repurposed some people to get the most out of PCs as well............probably not but im hoping anyways. :)
