Did Bethesda pick a bad release date?

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 12:00 am

Yeah the date is terrible. It should be 8/19/2011

Wouldnt that be nice? Regarding the issue of MW3, a COD game always gets released in November. Bethesda knew that well before they put an official release date for Skyrim. I dont see it affecting Skyrim's sales, though. Yes, a ton of people will be buying COD, as always, but then again, we know the huge following TES has, so there will be a lot of people buying Skyrim as well. Many will buy both. So to the TC, Bethesda did not pick a bad release date at all.

3 days? That's generous. The single player game will likely be about 4 to 6 hours long again, and the multiplayer will likely become too annoying to continue after the same length of time what with all the screeching, whining 10 year olds that'll be flooding all the servers.

I use a little thing called "MUTE". I have 15d 3h 36m playtime on MW2 Multiplayer. The CoD Multiplayer will last as long as you let it. :gun:

I had to make the choice between MW3 and Skyrim. I chose Skyrim, someone reassure me about my decision.

You made the right choice, no doubt about it.

I am most likely going to buy Resistance 3, Modern Warfare 3, and Battlefield 3 in the days leading up to 11.11.11. Then I will buy Skyrim. To anyone who says "CoD svcks; I hate it.", everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you can't deny the sales they get from every CoD game they release. If that's not success, I don't know what is. I personally don't think BF3 will sell as well as MW3, because MW is a more widely known series. BF3 might very well be a far better game(than MW3) in all aspects, but the sales won't reflect this on release day. I'm guessing it will take a while for BF to catch up to MW in sales. CoD is always successful because no one else does what they do as well as they do it.
Now, I'm talking about gameplay mechanics, not plot or anything. I've never played an FPS with smoother aiming, better animations, or with the same fast-paced "you're gonna die fast if you don't shape-up". If you've tried the CoD campaigns on Veteran, you know what I mean. If you don't have skills, you will die every 5 minutes, and you will get stuck on parts of levels because you aren't good(or lucky) enough. I sincerely hope BF3 shapes up to be a serious contender for MW. I hope the aiming doesn't "snap to a grid", making you feel severely restricted in combat. I hope the animations are realistic and don't look awkward. I hope it is actually challenging to play on harder difficulties, not just increased health on all enemies, or something akin to that.
Now, when I play TES, I play to explore a new world and to do things I couldn't possibly do in real life. I play to dungeon-crawl and find hidden treasures from the past. I play to navigate this new world filled with adventure. When I play CoD, I do so because its freakin' fun to play. I mean, guns are fun, but it does get extremely repetitive after a while. With TES, you can make a new character, use different weapons, use magic, run away from all the enemies, kill the townspeople, throw pumpkins off cliffs, shoot arrows at stuff just to watch it fly away, shoot fireballs in shops to make everything fly everywhere, and SO MUCH MORE. In CoD? You kill the same guys, you walk the same path, you can use different guns, but there are only so many in each level.
Each game has different aspect which make them all great(at least hopefully, considering they have not been released yet.) I hope all these games get great sales so everyone else can experience the games I love to play. :tes: :gun: :gun: :toughninja:

Asked the same question on the MW3 forums? I bet you will get a different outcome. :teehee:

No, I'm willing to sacrifice my time to play Skyrim instead of Saints Row: The Third.

This is not a thread for debating how "good" the CoD series is.

So, I finally got around to checking to see if any MW3 videos had been released since E3, and while watching some spec ops gameplay thing, I saw that the release date for MW3 was 11-8-11. Now, I'm not saying that CoD is better than ES, but CoD has been one of the top selling series for a few years now, and there's no doubt in my mind that there will already be millions of players online by the time Skyrim comes out.

From a financial standpoint, it's just an awful release date, considering many gamers are going to drop $60 dollars on MW3 and play only that game for the next few months. When Oblivion came out (in March if I remember), it was really the only major title released in that month. Fallout 3 did release in the same year as WaW, but WaW never really had as big of a release as other CoD games.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way, but isn't it sort of a bad idea to release Skyrim only 3 days after probably the biggest (in terms of sales) title of the year comes out?

As much as I anticipate it, I would have rather them pushed the release date back into 2012, maybe late spring or early summer. That way, Bethesda could have been allowed a little more time to tie up loose ends.

I don't care. At least BGS aren't in it just for the money. They actually want to please their customers by bringing in new and original content.

Not just, "2 NEW ATTACHMENTS!!"

Nope. Bethesda did fine, it's just that everyone else screwed up by releasing anywhere NEAR Skyrim (I'm looking at you CAPCOM!! Stupid Ultimate MvC3 release date)

Yup, though it lacks a sheriffs badge (no in-game server browsers for PC). RO2 is were it's at. :intergalactic:

RO2 :tops:

And RO2 has mod tools something that made Battlefield great especially PR mod and it is missing?? what?!
